one of our family favorites
Revisado: 09-23-24
It's like a favorite song. Our family does not tire of this story, the characters, and Maxwell Glick's engaging narration. Always ready to recommend this one for family road trips. Will be a forever family fave. The themes are worthwhile the family and social dymnamics great for middle grade and still enjoyable as we outgrow the age group. It's time for some more Lee Bacon books. Where are you at Lee?

I am not wholly impartial, but I did love it
Revisado: 09-23-24
I am normally somone who does not like over the top, but I have to disagree with the reviewers who thougth the narration got in the way of the story. I completely disagree. As I said I'm not wholly impartial as a reviewer, because I am the audiobook producer in this case. But again, I normally go for a very nuanced read, but the language, rhythm and voices in Kevin's book are so delightfully fun and larger than life, that I felt Jing Lusi brought the moments to absolute perfection in ways that noone else could. She has an understanding of the authentic culture clash within the Britrish Asian monarchy in general. I found the jokes landed with aplomb and her voices and dialogue to be maybe so on the nose that some found it hard to let it be. That's the only thing I can think. I think underplaying these characters would have done a disservice to Mr. Kwan's brilliant and momentous dialogue and descriptions. It reminded my of the billiant dialogue in the movie The Menu, which has nothing to do with Asian British monarchy but contains social commentary on the uber rich. It's ok to have fun and go over the top when it's so brilliantly written. But I am grateful for the feedback and will take into consideration for future casting of this series. I still think Jing Lusi was billiant and I laughted out loud and even felt love for many of these characters throughout the listen. I felt like I was traveling around the world with them and I was totally out of my element. Perhaps if you're too close to the culture, it would sting? I don't know... tell me more. I'm totally curious. Yours in art and creativity.

Telling
Revisado: 01-10-23
As difficult as it can be to listen to Trump’s voice without feeling triggered, I began the audio out of curiosity. I forced myself to continue in hopes of learning from Bob Woodward’s tenacity and in hopes of finding a a thread of anything sane in Trump. I listened on through the entire audio become more and more engaged in Woodward’s questioning and narrative and the piecing together of all he put into these interviews. The quality of production was fantastic and in the end a worthwhile listen. An absolute exclamation point to the absurdity of Trumps presidency. I did gain an understanding of Trump’s method of praise ‘n push, of showering his interviewer with accolades only to push his own agenda , avoiding direct answers and pushing away any challenging question, pretending humility followed by exclamations of heroism in the same breath over and over and over. And this is the way, I imagine he has won so many supporters, but a Bob Woodward of course was cognizant of Trump’s ploy and speaks of it throughout the audio. A peak into Woodward’s skill as a journalist is well with this listen. He’s a master and never lets up or gives up on trying to get to a deeper answer, to any answer regarding Trump’s plans as president. You are a fly in the wall as you sympathize with Woodward as the pressing but always respectful journalist. Well done!!!

It was awesome
Revisado: 09-26-17
The book was very en enjoyable and had a lot of cliffhangers. I did not dislike anything about this book. This book is good for ages 7 or older it has a few scary parts, but for the most part it's family friendly. You should definitely listen to the sands of shark island: school ship tobermory.
