Steven Weber made this book!
Revisado: 07-08-14
What disappointed you about It?
I didn't really like this book when I read it when it first came out. I have read every thing SK has written, some good some uhh -not-so-good. This book fell into the latter category. However, the narrator seriously made this book happen. Even a bad book can be made great by its deliverence and Steven Weber made a rather cheesy book fantastik!
Would you ever listen to anything by Stephen King again?
Oh yes. overall, I like his stuff, even if in his old age he is getting rather predictable. I will still give him the chance to get a good one in.
Have you listened to any of Steven Weber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I do not think I have listened to Steven Weber before. I would have to check my library, but I most certainly will look to see if he has anything else out and would get it in a heart beat.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes It wasn't all bad, just seemed to really stretch the activities and believabilities of 12 year old children.

Entirely too steriotypical
Revisado: 09-25-13
Would you try another book from Martha Miller and/or Bernadette Dunne?
Probably not Martha Miller, but would not mind listening to Bernadette Dunne read another book.
Has Retirement Plan turned you off from other books in this genre?
I don't much care for the steriotype that was portrayed. Also the good and "bad" guys, as three Lesbians? Nah, would rather have had a straight character vs a gay character, but their sexuality be a secondary theme and incidental at best.
Which character – as performed by Bernadette Dunne – was your favorite?
I liked the main character Lois, and Sophie second.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Rather disappointed. Expected to read a good novel about Lesbian women but got the steriotypes as side characters. Lesbians, where I live, do not wear flannel, ever. That is an OLD image that we have struggled to alleviate, but here it is again, portrayed in a modern novel. Bummer.....I did like the reader, and wouldn't mind hearing her read another book.

Dissapointing ending
Revisado: 07-29-12
The book caught me up right from the beginning, but the ending was a bit pitiful and dissapointing. Could have used a few more hows and why. Maybe that could have added some length to it. Not the best read I have ever had.

Historia
It was supposed to be a harmless camping trip. Six wayward teenagers who'd run into trouble with the law, and their court-appointed guardians, Sara and Martin Randhurst. Three nights on a small, deserted island off of Michigan's upper peninsula. A time to bond, to learn, to heal. Then Martin told a campfire story about the island's history. Of the old civil war prison hidden in there, and the starving confederate soldiers who resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. Everyone thought it was funny. They even laughed when Martin pretended to be dragged off into the woods.

Uncaptivating.....
Revisado: 11-02-11
I found the book to be sophamorically predictable. Come on, a salt shaker in the pocket, really??? Puleeze..... Would not recomend anyone to purchase this book, though the person who read (Paul Giante) was very good, his story line was so lame, I only finished it because I paid for it. Really, don't waste your time purchasing, much less listen to this book.

Not as expected.....
Revisado: 01-05-08
I thought Orson Scott Card would have done a better job with this book. I felt it to be a bit lame in spots. Perhaps I missed the overview and it was meant to be read by a juvenile, as that was how it was written. It had some good points and entertainment value of 3 but was far too predictable and difficult to conceive as even remotely plausable which for me gives it an edge.
