Pleasantly surprised

I got this book as a “settlement” free book. As a fiction lover, it looked like the one I would most likely enjoy out of this offered.
It turned out to be a really good story. There are four parts and part one is pretty “gentle.” Part two onwards the language and situations get a little rougher.
I’m interested in reading the rest of the series. Note, this is book two, I believe.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Excellent all around

This is probably, easily, my favorite Audible book. The book itself, I own on Kindle and hardcover. It's such a wonderful, well written book.
Edward Herrmann, known to many as the "dad" in the movie The Lost Boys - yeah, the 80's vampire movie, is the best narrator who could have been chosen to narrate this book. He is an incredible voice talent. His voice is deep and rich and he knows just how to convey the emotion and heart of The Boys in the Boat.
I know this may sound like hyperbole to many of you, but this review is written in earnest. I have re-read the book & re-listened to it multiple times. When I finish other books and need something to listen to on my commute, this is my go-to. It makes me joyful and weepy by turns at the appropriate places each time I listen. It is, by far, my favorite non-fiction book and second only to Pride and Prejudice as my favorite book of all time. I recommend it to all without reservation.
Don't think twice. Do yourself a favor & get this book!
