I can suspend disbelief just as much as the next romance reader, but I honestly can’t get my head around the conflict here. You’re afraid to tell him he’s good in bed? You’re pretending to like it less than you do? Maybe it makes sense later on, but I was already struggling to stick with this one. DNF at about 70%

Love the series, but this FMC is obnoxious

I never exactly love the miscommunication trope, but can usually tolerate it. This one just takes it way too far. Want to know what’s going on with your fated mate? My god, just ask him. This book is worth it for the plot movement that impacts the series, but man the relationship conflict is as stupid as it gets. I’m not even talking about the amnesia. That part is fine.

I couldn’t connect with the characters

The characters in this book feel a lot younger than the others I’ve read from Abby Jimenez. The FMC is Not Like Other Girls. She’s tiny and hot, but eats burgers and hangs out with the guys. I know this was the author’s first book, and it shows. Nothing major wrong with it, but her later writing is much more interesting.

The romance wasn’t convincing

I typically love Mimi Matthews, but this one missed the mark. The central romance just fell flat for me. Not sure what these two see in each other.

It’s fine

I was excited about the premise of this one, but the execution was just okay. There weren’t a ton of big feelings, and the plot seemed to overtake the romance, even though there wasn’t all that much going on. I love a savvy FMC who isn’t easily duped, but not when it means she’s constantly imagining threats and betrayal on the thinnest evidence. And the constant miscommunication! Overall, it’s a bit plodding, a bit annoying, but otherwise fine. Oh and the narration had pretty inconsistent volume from chapter to chapter.

A perfect book

This book has no business being as amazing as it is, given the premise, but my god I think I found a new favorite. Best I’ve read all year, but it might actually be an all time favorite. The audio is incredible too. I loved the banter and that the two voice actors shared every scene. Incredible

Better than ACOTAR

So I picked up this series after tearing though all the Sarah J Mass books. I was hoping for something similar, but this turned out to be better. Similar vibes and tropes (though less magic), but the characters start off great and still have room for character development. Rowan was the strong female lead that I wish Feyre had been from the beginning. Yes, she was a bit reckless, but she had a strong personality, serious fighting skills, and didn’t make out-of-character mistakes just for the sake of the plot. The MMC’s actions were also way more defensible. Very worth the read.

It’s just kinda boring

To her credit, Olivia Dade is really great about delving into characters’ insecurities in realistic ways. These characters are very normal people making very normal mistakes, with more than a normal amount of pride and angst. Relatable, but not gripping. Not the escapism I’m looking for in a romance. I’ve liked some of her books in the past, but just can’t get into this one.

Delivers on big emotions and some hot scenes while somehow managing to balance a brutal word with a sweet relationship. Exactly what I was looking for. Someone recommended this one as a good option if you liked Victoria Aveline’s “Choosing Theo,” and that rec was spot-on. I actually liked this one a bit better. Not a lot of fluff here. The plot moves quick and all the scenes feel necessary.
