Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Stunned by the speed with which her ideal life fell apart, she turns to reflecting on her mother’s painful past and struggle for dignity. Preparing for motherhood, Zikora begins to see more clearly what her own mother wants for her, for her new baby, and for herself.

Historia
By the time she became US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch had seen her share of corruption, instability, and tragedy in developing countries. But it came as a shock when, in early 2019, she was recalled from her post after a smear campaign by President Trump’s personal attorney and his associates—men operating outside of normal governmental channels, and apparently motivated by personal gain. Her courageous participation in the subsequent impeachment inquiry earned Yovanovitch the nation’s respect, and her dignified response to the president’s attacks won our hearts.

Brave telling - common yet extraordinary story
Revisado: 03-19-22
Brave. Heroic. Every woman should read... so they know they are not alone.
Makes us proud of the Foreign service and without pomp drives home the devastating behavior of the prior administration that jeopardized us as a nation and jeopardized the Brave people of other nations .... yes even we in the US can fall under a thug regime.
But so remarkable was also the story of a woman just doing her best and believing in integrity and the greater good for herself and as a duty we should all inherently share. And so beautiful that it was so clear that she unremittingly believed in that for all nations.
Rising above the systemic and systematic subterfuge that women in any kind of authority or whose intelligence and ability poses a threat frequently experience.. it is hopeful.. against the worst odds (an orchestration by the oval offce).. this book is an American's friend, an international citizen's friend and a friend to any woman with an awful lot to give but continually facing terribly hard times.
Don't stray from integrity, don't stray from your deepest hopes for humanity.
Thank you for this book. 🌿

Remarkable storytelling, boldly tender .. every line while specific to this family was at same time a story of every daughter or son. .. .. I felt grateful to have been able to read / listen to this story...
I set the speed to .95x for a slightly lower tone.. but the narrator provided a sensitive and rich voice to this deeply brilliant book

This playful, entertaining, and mind-bending introduction to modern physics briskly explains Einstein's general relativity, quantum mechanics, elementary particles, gravity, black holes, the complex architecture of the Universe, and the role humans play in this weird and wonderful world. Carlo Rovelli, a renowned theoretical physicist, is a delightfully poetic and philosophical scientific guide. He takes us to the frontiers of our knowledge: To the most minute reaches of the fabric of space, back to the origins of the cosmos, and into the workings of our minds.

Magic. Beautiful, eloquent. Delightful narration.
Revisado: 12-31-21
Beauty of space and the interactions of scientific community unfurled with great eloquence... and a sensitive engaging narration.
A couple of words I had to re listen but always always always understood the concept and phrases. The narration wirh its gentle vocal humor and nuances of story telling and humane passion to share this beautiful knowledge seemed essential to accessibility of these complex concepts.
*May I reminder listeners that the speed of narration can be changed by clicking and sliding the 'x' to the left of the play bar... ?
Maybe in time and space , good listening moves slowly and is a non-linear form?
😔 I was sad to hear Dr. Rovelli was not narrating the next book.. and even a wonderful actor , Benedict Cumberbatch as narrator .. in the sample did not quite capture the kindly playful storytelling that softens the entry into these worlds of complex ideas
thank you for this incredible book and sublime narration.. ❤

Historia
They were teachers, students, chemists, writers, and housewives. They distributed anti-Nazi leaflets, printed subversive newspapers, hid resisters, spirited Jews to safety, transported weapons, and conveyed clandestine messages. The youngest was a schoolgirl of 15 who scrawled “V” for victory on the walls of her lycée; the eldest, a farmer’s wife in her sixties who harbored escaped Allied airmen. Strangers to one another, hailing from villages and cities from across France, these brave women were united in hatred and defiance of their Nazi occupiers.<

Extraordinary history of heroic persistence
Revisado: 09-08-21
Well written assemblance and coincidence of personal and historical facts to create a fabric of inspiration.
Like 'A Woman of No Importance' about Virginia Hall whose actions changed the course of WWII , this book should be part of one's life Canon.
