Historia
London, 1930. The five greatest women crime writers have banded together to form a secret society with a single goal: to show they are no longer willing to be treated as second class citizens by their male counterparts in the legendary Detection Club. Led by the formidable Dorothy L. Sayers, the group includes Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, Margery Allingham and Baroness Emma Orczy. They call themselves the Queens of Crime. Their plan? Solve an actual murder, that of a young woman found strangled in a park in France.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Revisado: 04-14-25
My love for the classic mysteries of Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh and Dorothy Sayers drew me to this story. Marie Benedict’s textured storytelling kept me interested to the end. The narrator, Bessie Carter, gave a well-pitched performance.

Historia
In Manhattan, a young grad student gets off the train and realizes he doesn't remember who he is, where he's from, or even his own name. But he can sense the beating heart of the city, see its history, and feel its power. In the Bronx, a Lenape gallery director discovers strange graffiti scattered throughout the city, so beautiful and powerful it's as if the paint is literally calling to her. In Brooklyn, a politician and mother finds she can hear the songs of her city, pulsing to the beat of her Louboutin heels.

Totally enjoyed the reading and the story was very entertaining. Makes me want to visit the City of New York, maybe even Jersey City.

Great Premise
Revisado: 11-11-18
I loved the premise of intelligent, albeit man-made, spiders advancing a community on a planet previously devoid of sentient life. Portia was a fascinating main character. I never thought I'd like a story that stars a spider. And of course, the creatures clash with humans to give the story tension. The narrator did a great job.

Another Great Easy Rawlins Mystery
Revisado: 08-06-18
Cinnamon Kiss delivered everything I expected from an Easy Rawlins novel: vivid characters, sense of time and place, well-paced story.
One of the pleasures of this series is experiencing Easy's evolution as a man -- seeing the times (1960s in this story) through his eyes, watching him change as he grows older.
Michael Boatman delivers an excellent performance. He varies his voice for each character, his pace is natural, and his voice is pleasing.
