Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

Yes, we can have both more and better discourse.
Revisado: 01-18-20
First off, I love the message of this book.
I like its take on discourse, and what it's become amongst people in different camps.
It's become something very different in our Facebook-driven age. Many tweet and forget conversations happening.
Very few attempts at finding a middle ground with each other. This book does a really good job of laying out and describing the pillars in our cultural and political safe-places. It goes as far as to name why we hold certain things, in such high regard. While other items we treat with disdain and abhorrence.
In regards to this book, my only regret is that I had preconceived what it was about.
To be clear, I wanted to read it... However, based on its title, I prejudged it, and did not get to it immediately.
Oh well, add that to the lessons learned, from this book.

Historia
In a sweeping narrative, the author of the mega-bestseller A Beautiful Mind takes us on a journey through modern history with the men and women who changed the lives of every single person on the planet. It’s the epic story of the making of modern economics, and of how it rescued mankind from squalor and deprivation by placing its material fate in its own hands rather than in Fate. Nasar’s account begins with Charles Dickens and Henry Mayhew observing and publishing the condition of the poor majority in mid nineteenth-century London, the richest and most glittering place in the world.

Ideas matter

I learned a great deal about the economists of old. I'm a computer science graduate, with a minor in international relations. I've never paid a great deal of attention to economists, and thier history.
That was before this book. Now I'm a fan of at least 3 entities. This is a whole new world for me to dig into, and learn about. Glad I read this.

read this 9 years too late

I got into living and working using the Pareto Principle back in 2008. So, I am already aware and am living by a number of the items this book discussed.
I will say that section on relationships is very sharp, and insightful.
good book, just not for me.
