Historia
If there is one belief that has united the left and the right, psychologists and philosophers, ancient thinkers and modern ones, it is the tacit assumption that humans are bad. It's a notion that drives newspaper headlines and guides the laws that shape our lives. From Machiavelli to Hobbes, Freud to Pinker, the roots of this belief have sunk deep into Western thought. Human beings, we're taught, are by nature selfish and governed primarily by self-interest.

A ray of brightness in a cynical world
Revisado: 12-19-21
Enjoyable listen, a welcome counterweight to the dark and cynical narratives. Presents the well-founded critiques to some famous social experiments and observations.
However, I did not enjoy the political implications though. Either way, it's a perspective we need for a more balanced view of human nature.

Historia
The international best seller and recommended by medics, patients and the NHS, this is a brain scientist's personal experience of a stroke. It tells of her journey and gives rare insight into human consciousness and its possibilities for all of us. On the morning of the 10th December 1996, Jill Bolte Taylor, a 37-year-old Harvard-trained brain scientist, experienced a massive stroke when a blood vessel exploded in the left side of her brain. A neuroanatomist by profession, she observed her own mind completely deteriorate.

Enlightening listen
Revisado: 12-03-21
A one of a kind recollection of what it means to lose a significant part of one's mind, as well as the enlightening powers of the right brain hemisphere and how to tap them without having a stroke ourselves.
A bit too short and new-age-y at the end, but I totally recommend it to anyone. It might prepare us somewhat in case it happens to us or someone we know. Also, if we are caregivers, it teaches us how it's on the receiving end of treatment and how we should treat stroke survivors, respecting their needs for dignity, peace and quiet.
