Historia
Few books in computing have had as profound an influence on software management as "peopleware". The unique insight of this longtime best seller is that the major issues of software development are human, not technical. They’re not easy issues; but solve them, and you’ll maximize your chances of success. For this third edition, the authors have added six new chapters and updated the text throughout, bringing it in line with today’s development environments and challenges.

Impractical for managers, but may be valuable for CEOs
Revisado: 07-12-24
The book talks about many things that are out of control of managers in a large organizations. It does share some things that managers can do better, however it offers little advice on how to do so.
Example -
It talks about offices vs limited spaces vs open seating. In a large organization there is little influence managers have over such decisions.
It talks about removing performance reviews. And it says as a manager you must think that is not feasible. Yes that is not feasible.
It gives great advice that we should create team bonding, but offers little suggestions about it. One of the suggestion it does provide requires the team to work over the weekend and over night.
It shares good advice on managers should show trust in their team, but offers little advice on how.
----------
for managers and leaders the 2 books i would recommend instead are
'Everyone deserves a great manager' and 'Nine minutes on Monday'

Historia
Golan Trevize, former councilman of the First Foundation, has chosen the future, and it is Gaia. A superorganism, Gaia is a holistic planet with a common consciousness so intensely united that every dewdrop, every pebble, every being, can speak for all - and feel for all. It is a realm in which privacy is not only undesirable, it is incomprehensible. But is it the right choice for the destiny of mankind? While Trevize feels it is, that is not enough. He must know.

Story was good, audio narration, not so much
Revisado: 06-11-24
Story was good. Audio narration was clear, however lacked variation in voices of different characters. It made it hard to separate out dialogues while listening.

Historia
The second novel in Isaac Asimov’s classic science-fiction masterpiece, the Foundation series. Led by its founding father, the psychohistorian Hari Seldon, and utilizing science and technology, the Foundation survived the greed and barbarism of its neighboring warrior-planets. Now cleverness and courage may not be enough. For the Empire - the mightiest force in the Galaxy - is even more dangerous in its death throes. Even worse, a mysterious entity called the Mule has appeared with powers beyond anything humanly conceivable. Who - or what - is the Mule?

Story is great

Story is great.
Little variation in dialogues for different people, making it hard to follow allow who is speaking what sentence during a conversation.

Historia
Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Feels a drag to listen.
Revisado: 02-10-23
First few disclaimers: I am not an avid book reader / listener. And I may have a high bar as I just finished Harry Potter 7 books.
I could only listen till 5:20 hour mark out of 12 hours after which I had to stop.
The book is ok but story goes on but does not seems to be building to anything. A short excitement here and there but they don’t interconnect. Author sprinkles details but then forgets. Eg at one point the talk about some who died but don’t bring that detail again.
The language is unnecessarily adult. The f’s and the s’s swear words seem to have been added forcibly.

Provides little guidance on how to pick 'words that work'
Revisado: 01-09-19
The book justifies that it is important to choose the right words. Yes we already know that.
It provides very little insight into learning how to pick the words that work.
