Historia
Cloning is a luxury for the wealthy. For Chance Harker, it’s a way of getting on with his lives. Five years ago, when he was sixteen, he and his brother, Marley, were murdered in a kidnapping gone wrong. Chance was revived—and his grieving parents met his existence with anger, neglect, and aversion. The public, though? They can’t get enough of the death-defying stunts he has parlayed into a social media spectacle. But after Chance’s latest “refresh,” he awakens to accusations that he’s killed Lee Conway, a stranger Chance has never met.

Not worth it, needs editing
Revisado: 06-14-23
I liked Constance enough to give this a try, but it's not good. The premise is good, a couple of expected twists are there, but the lack of good editing is distracting. Too many similes and metaphors. Disappointed.

Historia
By the time Phil Chase is elected president, the world's climate is far on its way to irreversible change. Food scarcity, housing shortages, diminishing medical care, and vanishing species are just some of the consequences. The erratic winter the Washington, D.C., area is experiencing is another grim reminder of a global weather pattern gone haywire: bone-chilling cold one day, balmy weather the next. BONUS AUDIO: Includes an exclusive introduction by author Kim Stanley Robinson.

A great series

If you are interested in Kim Stanley Robinson or other hard sci-if then you’ll enjoy this series.
I read this after reading many of his other books and it is interesting to see many ideas and themes starting here.

Historia
Shana wakes up one morning to discover her little sister in the grip of a strange malady. She appears to be sleepwalking. She cannot talk and cannot be woken up. And she is heading with inexorable determination to a destination that only she knows. But Shana and her sister are not alone. Soon, they are joined by a flock of sleepwalkers from across America, on the same mysterious journey. And like Shana, there are other "shepherds" who follow the flock to protect their friends and family on the long dark road ahead.

Amazing, The Stand for a new generation
Revisado: 12-08-19
The Stand with 21st (and beyond) technology. Wonderful character development, twists and fast pace. While it’s a monster you will want the story to continue.

Historia
From one of America's greatest minds, a journey through psychology, philosophy, and lots of meditation to show how Buddhism holds the key to moral clarity and enduring happiness. In Why Buddhism Is True, Wright leads listeners on a journey through psychology, philosophy, and a great many silent retreats to show how and why meditation can serve as the foundation for a spiritual life in a secular age.

Read it again!
Revisado: 08-06-18
The title will throw off folks who may not be curious or open to new ideas- that’s a pity. The arguments Wright delivers are around how mechanisms of our thought honed over millions of years have been ‘discovered’ at least twice. Once with modern psychology and CBT and previously with the advent of Buddhism. The book won’t require you to ‘believe’ anything, it’s fascinating, clearly stated and actually funny. Read it a few times, I’ve been picking up and understanding some concepts more deeply on the repeat.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Intense and immersive story
Revisado: 08-24-17
I've read just a little about the Vietnam war but wanted to learn more about the ordinary experience of front line soldiers. This book is anything but ordinary, and I think it does a great job of creating this odd alternative universe where kids are plucked from small towns and ghettos and dropped into a completely alien world. It's difficult to listen to at times but the connection you feel to these young men is strong. They're us, but better. They're like you and me but they're stuck in a hopeless hell where up is now down and death is a foregone conclusion.
It's not a perfect book but I wanted this perspective of a war we don't discuss. This book brings that and more. Also suggested: Hue1968, The Things they carried. I'm looking forward to watching the new documentary by Burns as well.
