Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Good twist!
Revisado: 04-03-25
I actually didn’t see this one coming the way I do with most of her books. Definitely an enjoyable read with a fresh story. 100% worth listing to for free, but I wouldn’t use a credit on it

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Okay book if you have kids
Revisado: 03-28-25
This book was fine I guess, but not for me because I don’t have or care about children. I’ve noticed that most of this authors books have suspense that revolves around babies and children, which leaves me completely uninterested. Like there’s something weird happening with the baby… but i just don’t don’t care? I guess if i had kids it might be more impactful, or if there were cats instead of kids

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Very enjoyable, I listened to it over the course of two days. So many reviews say it’s so dark, which it is, but it’s not that dark. Well written

I am BAFFLED as to how this has such a high rating
Revisado: 02-20-25
I am genuinely confused about how this book has such a high rating in both story and performance. First of all, there are no unexpected twists. I kept waiting and waiting, but everything that happened was pretty boring and predictable.
I’m so disappointed, I had high hopes because of the reviews but I think this story just isn’t for me. I think this book is more for people who like simple crime dramas that don’t require a lot of thought. If you’ve read good thrillers or like a real mystery this really won’t do it for you, just skip it.
On top of all that, not a single character is likable. They’re all pretty bad, annoying people that all seem like they’d nightmare to be around. The male voice actor makes it impossible to sympathize with the character because he sounds so dumb. It sounds like they told a little kid to do their best private investigator voice, and just went with that. It sounds insane and made me hope that he got convicted just because of how stupid and annoying he was. Aside from sounding like an idiot, he did incredibly stupid things. If there was a way to never again see a title from this author I would do it

It’s fine
Revisado: 01-07-25
This book is fine. I listened while I was at a work so I didn’t actually waste any time on it. I would say it’s predictable, but the end is so random and out of nowhere that I never would have guessed. I can’t recommend it because I don’t think it was very good

Revisado: 01-05-25
The voice actors did a great job, they’re the reason this story is as captivating and exciting as it is. Reminds me of an old radio murder mystery story. Would definitely recommend

Good story, narrators are slightly annoying
Revisado: 12-21-22
The story is great. It’s not easy to guess what’s going to happen, and it’s a fun story. The only issue I had is that the female narrators vocal patterns are weird and annoying. She has some sort of weird tone and vocal speed. It’s unusual and hard to listen to. The male narrator is a bit better, but his voice he uses for “snotty teenage boy” voice is annoying. But they’re not bad, just hard to listen to

Historia
Two women. Many aliases. Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. Different names for the same person, depending on the town, depending on the job. She's a con artist who erases herself to become whoever you need her to be—a college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. Nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you need to hear, and by the time she's done, you've likely lost everything.

Don’t listen if you’re in your 30s
Revisado: 05-09-22
Seriously. This book will make you feel like a washed up old maid at 35. The main characters voice is like 20 years older than it should be, and all she does is emphasize how old she is at 36. This book must have been written by someone extremely out of touch, because every woman I know in her 30s will happily tell anyone that 30s is NOT old and, in fact, way more enjoyable than 20s. This just killed the book for me
