I’ve read all sorts of military fiction and nothing comes close to the ghosts when it comes to capturing the truth feelings of an actual story of war.

A fun mystery that differs from the standard magical detective. Returns to the old tradition of providing enough clues to let you solve the mysteries alongside an even ahead of the characters.

With all the questions seeded throughout the book I almost wanted to spoil it. Such a ending I never expected.

I love Jack's books. I was introduced to him with the Dragons of Doorcastle and have listened to 90% other works but this just doesn't feel like him.Only other book I had problems with was Legacy of Dragons at the start but that's because the main characters were literally winy teens that were able to grow into proper characters and I appreciate that growth but there was something interesting to spark it and mostly because the rest of the cast were able to pull the load early on. This on the other hand feels like a case of audible giving Jack money and a deadline for 3 books and he gave them what he was able to put out.

The biggest thing is how the prophecy is the first thing that happens. Because of this we get nothing of how the legendary Jules is without the weight of the prophecy on her. I am 6 chapters in and all I can tell you about her is she was a orphan and joined the military because the only jobs open to orphans is the military or sex work. After that she has a generic package of hero skills with no real explanation she is a fresh out of the academy trainee able to sail on par with experienced capstans and to fight with a unfamiliar weapon with minimal explanation. We can't even call her brave as she uses the shield of confidence that most cocky teens use in that she was told she was special. Because she was told her decedents would free the world and she has yet to have any she uses that knowledge as a bullet proof coat. Then when she isn't full of herself or being told how great she is she falls into depression because she feels that she will be defined by what her future child will do. Perhaps it gets better in but I have never had to struggle so had to convince myself to listen to one of Jack's books. Might just be the narrator but all the characters seem to blend together to me.

Most of the story just feels like a hallow repeat of whats been written before. I feel that the cause of this is that Jules lacks a foil or partner to work with. Everything we get is from her perspective and theirs very interactions with the crew of importance. It's almost like if one of the other books were rewritten without one of the protagonists. I might come back and give it a try when im running low on new books but for now im refunding it.

I didn’t even make it to bing’s actual story. Narrator has a good voice but reads the book like a series note cards with big pauses. Fist chapter is almost nothing but a list of accomplishments and second chapter is about his Irish ancestors immigrating to America but with most stories of the kind facts are slim and a lot of guesses are made. Perhaps the actual body of the book is good but going by the start I could probably find most of this on his Wikipedia page.

I have become a major fan of this series over the last few years. What drew me to it were the complex characters and the mystery of the world. With the start of this new saga I see Trevor Cooley has outdone himself again. Starting with a quick summery to refresh those of us who don't go through the series multiple times in a year as well as give new readers a good starting place without too many spoilers. The first 3 chapters do a good job of taking you on an emotional roller coaster that will leave new readers eager to know whats happening while old readers compare notes on the latest theories. I have so much more I would love to talk about but I can't stand the idea of spoiling anything. If you are tired of fantasy filled with grimdark or Marry Sue characters then please give this series a try.

I was first drawn to the series because it wasn't a LitRPG that turns into a power trip. Oleg's ability to keep humble is one his best features. I will say of the four books this one seems the weakest as it feels like there are a lot of loose ends. In part, I feel like this was on purpose as it gives the feeling of being in a game where Oleg is ignoring the story. Some nice twists but I feel disappointed that all the friends that he made over the series boil down to a few bit parts. The NPCs are interesting but I feel that without also having some players involved it makes the story a bit dry.Still I feel its worth listening to complete the series sort of like how I feel about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It migh not be the ending we want but it at least gives us closure.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is no single moment that is moving as you see the fragments of Orsus' mind come together you feel sorry for the man who would become known as the Butcher.

Any additional comments?

This is a dark secret that many have pondered on for over a decade. Listen now the tale of what made Orsus Zoktavir into the Butcher of Khardov and the tragedy carried by the axe known as Lola.

Would you listen to Into the Storm again? Why?

Yes, Each of the characters and interesting and lovable never get tired of listening.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Into the Storm?

"Most Storm Knight standards had more eloquent mottos, often long sayings related to honor, duty, or valor or even quotes from kings or the wisdom of the ascendants, but the Malcontents' motto consisted of a single word. Redemption"

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Did a good job of multiple voices and accents. Makes each one come to life.

Any additional comments?

Privateer Press continues to put out high quality wrighing. This is the start of something grand.

Would you listen to The House of Hades again? Why?

No, The overall story is nice but it seems to suffer from the same problems as many other last books by trying to do too much in one story.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Less random and pointless character development. Advancement that changes nothing in the overall story is the same thing as bad anime filler and a good chunk of the book feels like that. The Last Olympian was only 11hrs long but I loved every moment. This one just feels too drawn out being the longest one of the batch. Sort of how the Harry Potter books ended with just leaving to much for the last book.

How could the performance have been better?

Use the old narators

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Bob helps

Any additional comments?

I feel Rick could have done better.
