Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Thumbs up, helped by good narration
Revisado: 03-05-19
This was a good, brisk story of some pretty gruesome stuff - felt like a Law & Order SVU set in Texas. I've always wondered what makes these serial killers tick, and this took you there.
The narration was strong, keeping the story moving with energy and a comfortable voice that kind of guides you through the horrible-ness in a way that works. I think I enjoyed it more as an audiobook than I would have as a book because of the narrator.
I felt like at the end of the (short) book I had a good sense of 'why', while the author doesn't claim to have it all figured out.

Excellent story, strong performance
Revisado: 11-20-18
This was a terrific discovery. I saw halfway through my listening that someone compared it to ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ which makes sense. Strong characters with an engaging plot, showing a southern world with a lot of color and descriptions. The reader did a great job of bringing it to life, with some of the most exciting scenes especially. Very well done!

Historia
For three long years, the American Civil War has raged across the nation, scorching the land, leaving thousands dead, and tearing families apart. The endless fighting has hardened the hearts of soldiers of both sides. But on a lonely field in mid-Tennessee, some of those soldiers will come face to face with one another in a series of ball games. Stalled in a stalemate, the soldiers start out with small bets on who is better at the game; but as the wagers increase, so do the risks.

Excellent tale, well-told
Revisado: 03-23-18
This is a terrific mix of civil war historical fiction and baseball story. Rooted in facts, the author weaves a multitude of interesting characters around common themes of civil war stories with a lot of great baseball tidbits. While I read it, I kept thinking it would make a neat movie, only to learn in the afterward that it started as a movie that eventually didn’t get made. The cinematic elements are brought out by the fine audio narration, as the reader makes the characters and setting come alive with strong descriptive vigor. He does a great job. Two thumbs up for the listening experience.

A great short read
Revisado: 11-18-17
A great novella with a excellent narrative descriptions, clear characters and a nice subtle twist. Nicely somewhere between sci-fi and character study. I got a surprisingly clear feeling for the life of this gravedigger from the language, and the reader was excellent in conveying the images with patience and heart. A great way to spend a short drive!

On September 11, 1814, an American naval squadron under Master Commandant Thomas Macdonough defeated a formidable British force on Lake Champlain under the command of Captain George Downie, effectively ending the British invasion of the Champlain Valley during the War of 1812. This decisive battle had far-reaching repercussions in Canada, the United States, England, and Ghent, Belgium, where peace talks were underway.

Interesting piece of history, well-told
Revisado: 01-11-17
My father grew up on Lake Champlain, and when I saw this it peaked my interest. I like stumbling on parts of history I overlooked and the geographic connection was interesting.
This is a detailed study of a singular event, with the context extensively explained. I'm not a regular reader of military history, so I can't compare, but I found the detail interesting but not cumbersome.
I found the reader very engaging, with a tone that flowed easily and helped me stay connected to some of the longer sections of detail. He was very good.
I feel like I now have a clear picture of a new window on the years after the revolution and the way that the British tried to hold on to influence in North America. Answered some good questions and helped me think of others. A good history, well-performed.

Good short engaging stories, well read
Revisado: 10-26-16
This is what audibles are great for - short, bite-sized nuggets that I can take in on a drive or exercising. Finn makes sure each one is exceptional in some way - some with a twist , some with something absurdly creative or shocking, or some with a hidden or not so hidden social message or question.
The reader is particularly good at shifting to whatever style the story is aiming for - he seems to be good at action, suspense or just patient description. Made the stories come to life.

Historia
Henry Donner had heard of people avoiding a flight because of premonitions of doom, but he never suspected that the opposite may also be true: some people are drawn to a doomed plane because deep down, they hunger for the end. Worse, it may be their collective, suicidal will that makes it happen. Now, only as redeye Flight 290 lifts off does Donner realize the truth: the airliner's final destination isn't New York, but oblivion, and he's the only one who can do anything about it - if, that is, he can get past the demonic forces.

Interesting read
Revisado: 08-03-16
This was an interesting concept, with a neat performance. The interplay between the two narrator voices - both very engaging actors - made listening to it more dramatic.
The story is less about a plane trip than something more metaphysical, and I'm not sure I or the author ever decided whether it was a thriller or psychological sci-Fi. But I enjoyed it.

Good short story, excellent performance,
Revisado: 05-07-16
I had a one hour drive from Philadelphia to Delaware and a friend recommended this to me. The patient and detailed descriptions sucked me in, and the tensions build very well through the story. I appreciated listening without spoilers, as I genuinely wasn't aware of the twists it would take. I found the reader particularly engaging. Glad the weather was nice on my drive or this would have been even more eerie.
