Overall Disappointment
Revisado: 09-15-24
I’ve been a lover of J. A. Janice since the first J. P. Beaumont novel. Over the last several years all of her beloved series have become less than exciting, predictable, and the plots and dialog simplistic. I cannot listen to the others any longer but I’ve loved these until the last few. I’ve lived in Bellingham and spent 20 years in the Pacific Northwest, mispronouncing areas, Whatcom/Skagit is just cringeworthy. It’s great to see how these characters have evolved but the plot’s conclusion is absolutely ridiculous. It pains me to write this, but I’m done.

This is awful
Revisado: 10-14-21
Love the Deadwood series, I couldn’t get through 30 minutes of this book, maybe my error but I really expected more from this. Sorry, not the most informative review.

Simply disappointing
Revisado: 10-14-21
I was delighted to see a new story and there were a few snippets of the beloved character dialog but this one was not great. Due to shortness of the story, the manufactured, overly dramatic performance was too much. I’d suggest waiting for a sale, it’s not worth the current cost and in no way worth a credit.

Historia
New York City, 1899. Tillie Pembroke’s sister lies dead, her body drained of blood and with two puncture wounds on her neck. Bram Stoker’s new novel, Dracula, has just been published, and Tillie’s imagination leaps to the impossible: the murderer is a vampire. But it can’t be - can it? A ravenous reader and researcher, Tillie has something of an addiction to truth, and she won’t rest until she unravels the mystery of her sister’s death.

Could not get past the first hour
Revisado: 12-01-20
This was perhaps one of the worst stories I've attempted to listen to. Not a particularly helpful review, but I loathe being cruel. If you are interested in the plot, it would be best as a public library loan.

Historia
To the tourists and summer residents, Kentwater County is a picturesque community of small-town charm, fruitful farmland, and gorgeous freshwater beaches. To middle-aged widow Isabel Puddles, it's where she preserves pickles, bakes pies, works the counter at her cousin's hardware shop, and occasionally helps "fix up" the hair of corpses at the local funeral parlor. When Isabel discovers a two-inch nail embedded in the skull of Earl Jonasson, it seems the octogenarian may not have died of a stroke.

I just couldn't let this finish
Revisado: 12-01-20
My apologies; I don't like to be critical and recognize it takes a great deal of effort to write and publish a book. But I could not get through more than a third of this story. I liked the plot's idea, but this was way too slow, overly detailed, and for me, the narration did not seem to fit within the storyline type. I will give book two a try if one becomes available but could not listen any longer, rare for me.

Historia
Over the hill, all outta ducks to give, and suddenly life is looking up...even if you're living with a ghost and fighting off werewolves. Moving back to Savannah changed my life in all the best ways. Color me surprised, when a new job lands in my lap watching over a fairy ring. Worth ten times what I’d make anywhere else, it seems too good to be true. I take it anyway. And that’s when things get weird. Nothing in Savannah is what it seems, and the magic and undercurrents of this city are pulling me onto a dangerous path.

Story lacked cohesion
Revisado: 06-02-20
Although I didn’t care for the first book, I thought with the second book it might get better. Most of the characters are likable and there were a few bits of humor but overall the storyline needs editing and many assumptions were made. It just wasn’t for me.

Historia
One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it.

Wanted to like this
Revisado: 06-02-20
I really wanted to like this but felt I was suffering through the (himself) verbiage. There are the bones of a good story here but it needs work.
