Historia
The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Wil Wheaton did an excellent job. The book was different but just as good or better than the movie.

Historia
A third scar appears, pointing Ret to the Amazon rain forest, the Sahara Desert, and ultimately the City of Gold. Trouble at every turn, in lands where deadly curses abound. Somewhere, between golden arches and ancient ruins, an age-old secret is waiting to be uncovered. Ret’s enemies are multiplying, a grim reality that will try the hearts of his friends. The Oracle is wasting no time now, clearly hastening the gathering of its elements. Things are in full motion; Ret feels this. So does Lye; he is ready - and waiting.

Another excellent listen (read). A gripping story. While the overall global effects of the successful searches are overwhelming, it took some thinking to see where the author is going. Although, up until now, each volume has been very sharply focused - the author clearly seems to have an over-arching plan. Nothing less that a total earthly geological change. Perhaps Pangaea returning?

Historia
The mounting burdens finally become too much for Ret, and he abandons his destiny to “cure the world”. But the Oracle has much more to teach our young hero, even powers unseen. Things heat up and then really cool down as the quest for the fourth element extends to the bottom of the globe. Join Ret as he braves an abominable snow beast, ventures deep inside Antarctica’s most ancient glacier, and then needs help from a certain loved one as he comes face-to-face with his toughest challenge yet: himself.

I particularly enjoyed the trial against alcohol. While I an by no means a tea-totaler, I think the author did an excellent job in explaining the catastrophic results of the misuse of alcohol.
I also enjoyed the complications brought in by the “clone.”

Historia
Ret’s second scar makes its explosive debut. More of our world’s mysteries lead him to Fire Island and the second element. Ancient artifacts, a hot-air balloon, lines in the desert, a city in the mountains, tribal societies, and even the navel of the world all play their parts in Ret’s continued quest to fill the Oracle.

A fitting sequel.
Revisado: 05-14-23
The author shows growing knowledge of his characters. The second volume was an excellent effort with general improvement in readability.
Only very minor reality checks to quibble about - remembering that this series of books are works of fiction.
1, The event that took place in the nuclear power plant could never have happened. No one with out proper radiation protection would EVER be allowed inside the containment building. Further. No visitor would be allowed inside the containment while refueling was taking place.
2. The last eruption of any Easter Island volcanoes took place over 100,000 years ago. Additionally all of the volcanoes have been extinct for something like 6,000 years. Plate tectonics moved the volcanoes away from the the magma chambers long ago.
Both of these issues are very, very nit-picky on my part. As I said this series is a work of fiction. 5 stars for everything.

An excellent book for the young and young at heart,
Revisado: 05-13-23
I particularly enjoyed that the author did not talk down to his readers. He used vocabulary that in some cases should require younger readers to (I hope) scramble for a dictionary. For example the term “colloidal suspension.”
He artfully mixes youthful optimism with the harsh reality of life by including heroic deeds with sometimes painful results. Well done Mr. T riser.
