Wasn’t expecting a lot, but the story is extremely boring and pretty cringe. Plot is all over the place, characters are bad, world building is almost nonexistent, and the MC is just lame. Don’t waste your time

Overall a very solid read, great characters and an interesting story. The Logan/Viv relationship, however, brings my rating down to 3 stars. Viv went from a top character to my least favorite, and every time their relationship is brought up I have the urge to quit reading. Don’t want to spoil anything but the writing is VERY poor in regards to how Viv hides her relationship. If you’re a fan of reading the MCs best friend falling for his bully (while hiding it from him) this book is for you!

Progression Fantasy for Middle Schoolers

I’ll start off by saying I went into reading this book hoping for something similar to Primal Hunter and DOTF. It has some of the same elements oh how DOTF started and progression is just ok, nothing too special.

Overall 3 star rating due to how insufferable the MC is, and is why I won’t be continuing. MC is supposed to be smart, ~30 years old, and a PHD candidate, but acts and whines like a literal child. It’s ridiculous, laughable, and honestly makes it hard to want to side with the MC.

World building is subpar, characters are good, some of the comedy is funny, romance sounds like it’s written by a middle schooler as well. Story definitely had potential, but if you’re looking for a strong progression fantasy like the other top novels in the genre, this is not it.

Feels like there’s only a couple chapters about Ryun and his growth in this entire book

Unbearable MC, No Progression, Wasted Potential

If you're looking for something similar to Cradle, Defiance of the fall, you've got the wrong book. I'd say the closest thing I can relate this to is Red Rising, especially in terms of hardship, betrayal, and a portrayed strong MC that is, in actuality, quite weak.

I wanted to like this book and this series. World building is good and the plot seems like it has potential, but the MC is insufferable. Power progression is non-existent, less one small section of the book. MC is hypocritical, dumb, selfish, makes the same mistakes over and over. So much betrayal and so many setbacks, but no gratification for overcoming adversity - he's always saved by someone or something else. Book makes it seem like the MC has a strong will, but it's hollow and to the point where it makes him unfathomably stupid. He wants revenge, but the only way to get revenge is to get stronger - something the author makes abundantly clear throughout the book and the way the world works, but there exists no drive to get stronger and just to focus on revenge EVEN when he continuously fails and gets bailed out by someone else. There is so much exposition about his anger and what he's going to do, but there are literally 0 steps taken on how he will go about making those things reality, driven by madness and his ego alone.

And don't even get me started on his only two true friends - the decision to remove his only two friends, and some of the best characters in the book, away from the MC's storyline is what broke the camel's back. Feels like this series keeps taking steps in the wrong direction, and the MC's stupidity and lack of growth shows me that the subsequent books will follow the same trend. I Given the first two books, it's quite clear who the mC is and that he won't change nor grow, skimpering by through plot armor.

And last, but not least, there is zero redemption. This entire book MC was betrayed and played a fool - I got interested because I thought that, through all this hardship and adversity, MC would come out the other side better, stronger, and smarter but that never happened. Even when he got his "revenge" by the end it was hollow and meaningless, since he was carried by others. 60+ hours through the first two books, and in the grand scheme of things, MC is still as weak and useless as when he was first cast through the final door.
