Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job. Evie isn’t privy to Mr. Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job isn't like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can’t make any mistakes—especially after what happened last time.

Historia
In North Devon, where two rivers converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his estranged father’s funeral takes place. On the day Matthew left the strict evangelical community he grew up in, he lost his family, too. Now, as he turns and walks away again, he receives a call from one of his team. A body has been found on the beach nearby: a man with a tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death. The case calls Matthew back to the people and places of his past, as deadly secrets hidden at their hearts are revealed.

From the very beginning I found it difficult to do anything except sit with this delightful, wise, touching, frightening tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed it - the story itself and the remarkable narrator.

Thrilling, thoughtful, and inspiring historical novel
Revisado: 12-31-19
This well-written historical novel offers it all: shudderingly realistic depictions of
war-time espionage, romance, friendships forged through shared horrors, underscored by ethical and moral challenges of conscience throughout. All
narrated remarkably well. I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and was sad to see it end.
Definitely recommend!

Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Captivating , But Drawn Out
Revisado: 03-27-19
Written in an unusual format for a psychological thriller - this audio book ‘read’ like a one-person Broadway play. While I appreciated the author’s deep understanding of severe depression and anxiety - as well as his vivid descriptions of the main character’s reactions as she lived through a frightening and disturbing life experience - I was unable to hang in there through the second half of the book.
Just too drawn out.
