Historia
From a young age, Cäcilie Bertha Ringer is fascinated by her father's work as a master builder in Pforzheim, Germany. But those five words, which he wrote next to her name in the family Bible, haunt Bertha. Years later, Bertha meets Carl Benz and falls in love—with him and his extraordinary dream of building a horseless carriage. Bertha has such faith in him that she invests her dowry in his plans, a dicey move since they alone believe in the machine. When Carl's partners threaten to withdraw their support, he's ready to cut ties. Bertha knows the decision would ruin everything.

I loved how involved this husband and wife were with developing their passion to build a motor car

Characters were real.
Revisado: 09-18-24
I especially enjoyed Bertha, but the main characters all came alive in the telling.
The last chapter, where the author tells what her research found and what she invented, adds so much authenticity.

Historia
Helen Rebanks' beautifully written memoir takes place across a single day on her working farm in the Lake District of England. Weaving past and present, through a journey of self-discovery, the book takes us from the farmhouse table of her grandmother and into the home she now shares with her husband, James, their four kids, and an abundance of animals. With honesty and grace, Helen shares her life in days—sometimes a wonder and a joy, others a grind to be survived—weaving in stories that unfolds like a well-written pastoral novel.

Real story of a farming mother.

The story itself was excellent and educational. The descriptions were riveting. I had trouble shifting when she went back and forth in time.

Women characters were believable!
Revisado: 07-25-15
Sandra Dallas gives the average person a believable scenario with people who are less than perfect, but very interesting. The story is interwoven with twists and turns, keeping the attention of the reader.
