Refreshing
Revisado: 04-03-11
I loved this book. At times I was laughing out loud. It was so refreshing and the main character was so down-to-earth. It was a wonderful listen. I think I've found another author to watch for AND another narrator too.

Historia
In this searing, unflinchingly honest book, Portia de Rossi captures the complex emotional truth of what it is like when food, weight, and body image take priority over every other human impulse or action. She recounts the elaborate rituals around eating that came to dominate hours of every day, from keeping her daily calorie intake below 300 to eating precisely measured amounts of food out of specific bowls and only with certain utensils. When this wasn’t enough, she resorted to purging and compulsive physical exercise, driving her body and spirit to the breaking point.

This book was wonderfully brave. I love Porta as an actress but I respect and admire her as an author for this book. I wish it was a mandatory read for all young women in high school or college. Simply fantastic.

Amazing
Revisado: 12-19-10
This book is nothing short of wonderful. Not only did I fall in love with the characters, but I also loved the way it was written. This coming of age story set in Ireland made me laugh out loud, gave me chills, and made me cry too. It also made Caroline Lennon my favourite narrator. My only complaint is that it ended. It was one of those books that I wished I could unread just to re-experience it again for the first time. I've since bought the actual book and have relistened to this novel numerous times. Definitely worth your time!!

Horror?
Revisado: 02-26-08
I couldn't even finish the book, I was so bored. Horror? Not quite. I was nearly to the end and just couldn't stand to listen to any more. Why a rather sick pitched man's voice for the lead adult female when a female's voice was sufficient for the lead young female? I guess the narrators just never convinced me. I was pretty disappointed.

Historia
English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

a well read tale
Revisado: 09-05-07
At first I was a bit disappointed in my purchase thinking this book nothing more than fluff, but then suddenly I found myself invested in the characters and curiously caring about their circumstances. For me the narration made the story - fluff or not. I doubt anyone else could have drawn me in. Before I knew it, I was extending my walks just a little further . . . I may just chance another book by this author provided the same narrator is on board.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

matter of fact
Revisado: 11-22-06
I found myself laughing out loud, gasping, muttering etc. while I listened to this book. It was truly the story of a courageous young boy. To endure the sadness, the poverty and the weight of religious guilt like none I've ever known is a feat in itself. I loved this story very much and looked forward to every moment spent listening to the author tell his tale.
