Historia
‘It was a sweet finish after the bitter pills of floggings and bullets with which these same governments, just at that time, dosed the German working-class risings’. The Communist Manifesto is, perhaps surprisingly, a most engaging and accessible work, containing even the odd shaft of humour in this translation by Samuel Moore for the 1888 English edition.

as nuts as I had heard.
Revisado: 06-17-24
Decided to listen in order to help understand what communists/socialists believed in. Yep, it's as nuts as I had heard. First half is explanation of terms. Then a response to accusations from people and governments that the extreme actions of the socialist plan do not pertain to everyone. Second half goes back on those statements detailing how socialists really do plan on doing those things to all of society. for example it calls for the confiscation of all belongs of immigrants and rebels. so if you disagree with them they can take everything. Final bit is explaining that communists will do the socialist plan as violently and destructively as possible.
Can't understand how anyone ever thought this could be a good idea.
For anyone who wants to go further, there are many good books detailing Marxs life. just be sure you don't grab one written in the USSR as they cut out anything negative.
interesting note, he was a failed poet. I wonder how may global level monsters were failed artists.

Historia
We've come a long way in the forty years since the Shongairi attacked Earth, killed half its people, and then were driven away by an alliance of humans with the other sentient bipeds who inhabit our planet. We took the technology they left behind, and rapidly built ourselves into a starfaring civilization. Because we haven't got a moment to lose. Because it's clear that there are even more powerful, more hostile aliens out there, and Earth needs allies. But it also transpires that the Shongairi expedition that nearly destroyed our home planet ... wasn't an official one.

Historia
The Shongairi conquered Earth. In mere minutes, half the human race died, and our cities lay in shattered ruins. But the Shongairi didn't expect the survivors' tenacity. And, crucially, they didn't know that Earth harbored two species of intelligent, tool-using bipeds. One of them, long-lived and lethal, was hiding in the mountains of eastern Europe, the subject of fantasy and legend. When they emerged and made alliance with humankind, the invading aliens didn't stand a chance. Now, a select few blood-drinking immortals are on their way to the Shongairi homeworld.

better narration than first book.
Revisado: 03-23-24
Good story but the Narration needs a lot of work. this is better than book 1 narration. But not by a lot. Very little inflection or voice change between characters. I only hope book 3 has a better narrator. He is certainly no Allison Johnson.

Historia
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. As Jin, I’m a man of the earth. A wielder of shovels and lord of rice and wheat. And sure, I also had to die and get pulled into another universe to end up here. But guess what? I’m starting to think it was worth it. I’ve somehow managed to get away from it all.

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

fun story, needed a little more research
Revisado: 04-22-23
I really enjoyed this. It was great fun listening to the continuous roll with the punches situation. It needed a little more research though. Particularly into the firearms mentioned. If you're going to mention a specific make and model like Glock 19. They don't have manual safeties. Also shotguns do not work the way described. This matched how they work in Doom but not reality.

Historia
For the six lucky scientists selected by the Destination Mars! corporation, a one-way ticket to Mars - in exchange for a lifetime of research - was an absolute no-brainer. The incredible opportunity was clearly worth even the most absurdly tedious screening process. Perhaps worth following the strange protocols in a nonsensical handbook written by an eccentric billionaire. Possibly even worth their constant surveillance, the video of which is carefully edited into a ratings-bonanza back on Earth. But it turns out that after a while, even scientists can get bored of science.

Historia
The Argus Space Station looks down on a nightmarish Earth. And from this safe distance, the Committee enforces its despotic rule. There are too many people and too few resources, and they need 12 billion to die before Earth can be stabilised. So corruption is rife, people starve, and the poor are policed by mechanised overseers and identity-reader guns. Citizens already fear the brutal Inspectorate with its pain inducers. But to reach its goals, the Committee will unleash satellite laser weaponry, taking carnage to a new level. This is the world Alan Saul wakes to.

hard choices for a harder world.
Revisado: 10-11-22
The descriptions were a little shorter than I normally enjoy but the story was gripping if hard. Facing extinction at the hands of global environmental collapse or at the hands of a government that has decided that near extinction isn't a bad idea as long as they keep power.

Historia
Humanity lurches into an uncertain future, dismissive of warning signs. Only the most naïve believe humanity will step back from the brink. Yet in a place that doesn’t exist, a riddle, a puzzle, hope, fear, danger, salvation - all come together. Zach Marjek has faced death in the far corners of the Earth and survived where others have failed. Now, he's thrust into an unimaginable situation where mercenaries, an Inuit wanderer, a murderous Yupik, a young mother, a video game designer, a retired general, a president, a Chinese marine, and mathematics prodigies must come together.

Revisado: 04-15-22
If you're looking for a jump off the line action story then this isn't for you. This is a very detailed world that is the start of a new series. So it's mostly character development. For that it is excellent. I love how Olan Thorensen creates such great characters. I won't add spoilers. but the book is worth the time to listen. I loved it, and can't wait for the next one.
