This book is utterly delightful. Mauve is her same delightful self, back for a second adventure with her friends and family. I love how Berry weaves mundane, everyday moments (a sister courting, lessons, etc.) in with magic carpetbags and genies and cross-country adventures. The action moves smoothly and in the most engaging manner throughout the entire book, and it’s all sprinkled in with Mauve’s wonderfully sassy inner/outer dialogue. I’m also convinced that Jayne Entwistle was not only the best narrator for this series, but also truly the only one. Cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Humanizes Rebekah and Isaac !

My favorite aspect of Rebekah and Isaac by H.B. Moore is how this novel humanizes several prominent biblical figures. Moore does an excellent job of taking what we know about Rebekah and Isaac (and their family) and using that as the bones of the story, saving the artistic liberties only for what isn’t known. Experiencing the journey to Isaac alongside Rebekah, as well as Isaac’s waiting for her arrival, makes them both feel much more real and builds a connection.

The narration was well done and very easy to listen to!

Lovely retelling of Snow White and Rose Red

I love fairy tale retellings and Sally Britton’s writing style - this was a lovely melding of both! Sally Britton did a wonderful job creating a regency-style retelling that payed homage to the original tale of Snow White and Rose Red while also being unique. Questions the original left unanswered are addressed, and characters are given more depth and motivation.

The details of the story complimented the fairy tale origins well. I loved how Captain Graysmark was like a bear but without being an actual bear, the characters’ names and the reasoning behind why Scarlet, Blanche, and their grandmother were off in the forest. The way the treasure portion was addressed was a nice twist as well!

The additional character development made for a much richer story than the fairy tale that inspired this too. There were several thought provoking lines. My favorite quote: Our emotions only make us foolish if we act on them poorly. - Captain Caspar Graysmark

The narrator was an excellent choice - the style and tone of the narration fit the novella very well!

I received a complimentary audio copy from the author and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Julie Berry and Jayne Entwistle never fail to deliver a well-done story! I got an Audible account primarily to listen to this book, and it lived up to expectations! I loved the adventures of Mauve and her friends, and how authentic the characters felt. Jayne Entwistle is a fabulous narrator as well - best of any I've experienced yet! The performance showcases the comedic moments as well as the serious, all with the emotion it deserves.
