I am honored and thankful that I get the distinct privilege of listening to Mandela speak directly about his life’s mission and experiences from beginning to end. Thank God the author was able to persuade Mandela to cooperate through lengthy sessions to make this biography happen, This is the greatest man of our lifetime by far, everyone should read this book and learn everything they can about him. He earned the right to be called father of a nation, the new free South Africa. The sacrifices he and many other revolutionaries were all part of a plan. I’m so happy he got to see this plan fulfilled before he died: FREE AFRICA.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

I couldn’t stop but it could have been better
Revisado: 06-25-23
I enjoyed learning more about France in WW2 so overall this book was worthwhile, although it dragged on and I was ready for it to end. The author seemed to do a good job with the historical context, but the story details and character development could have been stronger. Very sad period piece. I was ready for it to end, but I couldn’t stop listening either.
This book felt similar to another one of Hannah’s historical novel, The Four Winds.
Of the three books I’ve read by this author, I enjoyed The Great Alone the best.

Historia
Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Timely and good insights
Revisado: 11-25-20
I totally enjoyed this book, it drew me in quickly from the start and held my attention to the end. I appreciated the opportunity to imagine what that unimaginable journey might be like, especially with a child. Certainly the main character isn’t “typical” because she had money in the bank to help her out of very difficult circumstances. But I’m not sure I could handle the real truth. What these immigrants are running from must be really awful because the journey is incredibly dangerous. 5 stars.
