Spellbinding story
Revisado: 05-14-23
The story is well told and engaging
The main narrator sounds a bit monotonous, this could be improved.

Vietnam meets Houdini meets murder mystery
Revisado: 07-12-21
I liked the gradual revelations of John’s past, mixed with hypotheses about what happened with Cathy. It keeps you guessing all the way.
This is a unique type of Vietnam novel: dealing with the mental and moral fallout in a mesmerizing thriller.
Only 2 drawbacks of this book: the cursing + the quotes at the beginning of several chapters were long-winding.
I was glued to my car seat while listening to this audiobook. What a story!

Surprising!

Surprising!
I did not know about MLK’s mountaintop reference in his speech.
If you swallow or ignore some bad language it is an unforgettable performance.
The performance (voices and sounds) is just great.

The Sheltering Sky is a landmark of 20th-century literature, a novel of existential despair that examines the limits of humanity when it touches the unfathomable emptiness of the desert. Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Requiem for a Dream) gives masterful voice to this American classic.

Ready for a sense of pending doom?
Revisado: 01-27-20
The book got going slowly, but in the second part became interesting. By then it started to grab me.
If you get the haunting suspicion that a thunderstorm is about to break out you will not be disappointed. The results will keep your mind occupied for a while.
The sense of pending doom hanging over this book makes for a rewarding read, or an engaging listening experience (if you get the audio version)

Funny but full of expletives and prophanities
Revisado: 10-09-19
I like someone with a sense of humor, so this book looked interesting. However, the many profanities and expletives made listening a pain. I returned the book.
