Historia
You've heard of the "Great Books"? These are their evil opposites. From Machiavelli's The Prince to Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto to Alfred Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, these "influential" books have led to war, genocide, totalitarian oppression, family breakdown, and disastrous social experiments. And yet these authors' bad ideas are still popular and pervasive. Here with the antidote is Professor Benjamin Wiker.

Anything but unbiased
Revisado: 11-04-22
I can save you s credit by summarizing the book in one sentence. "These philosophers are wrong because they're atheists. "
Now you know what the author had to say about all these books you can spend your credit on something that might be intellectually unbiased.

Historia
For 18 years, Ed Viesturs pursued climbing's holy grail: to stand atop the world's 14 8,000-meter peaks, without the aid of bottled oxygen. But No Shortcuts to the Top is as much about the man who would become the first American to achieve that goal as it is about his stunning quest. As Viesturs recounts the stories of his most harrowing climbs, he reveals a man torn between the flat, safe world he and his loved ones share and the majestic and deadly places where only he can go.

Well read, well written
Revisado: 10-07-09
This is an exceptional look at what it takes to make such extreme accomplishments. Several reviews suggest Ed Viesturs is somewhat arrogant but this is a biography of him and it takes supreme self confidence to accomplish what he has done. The narrator does an excellent job with intonation and pace. I found myself gripped at points waiting to find out how the next section played out. I am certain I will listen to this one again in the future.

Historia
Charlemagne was easily one of the most fascinating figures in Western civilization, as well as the most heroic and romantic. The 47 years of his reign marked some of the most significant and far reaching events of the Middle Ages. Undoubtedly, it was his enlightened vision for Europe that resulted in the Carolingian Renaissance, a period of cultural flowering that never really ceased to develop, and which led in a straight line directly to that period of astonishing achievement we now call the High Gothic.

Masterfully written
Revisado: 08-19-07
One of the first audiobooks I purchased and still one of my favourites. Despite its length I have just listenned to it for a second time and found it as fascinating as the first listen. The narrator is one of my favourites, his baritone lending weight to the life of Charlemagne and, while the facts are all present, they are woven into a story line that can easily hold the attention. I would recommend this for any lover of history.

Good message/Bad narration
Revisado: 04-23-07
The message of the book is lost in the poor narration. The constant mispronounciations and forced pace by the author make it difficult to accept the message is one of quality.
