Another good addition to this series

Koba Holdbrook-Smith was wonderful as usual and his American accent was fine. The new characters were fun and I would love to hear more about them including the talented valet who could prove to be a practitioner himself? I always enjoy stories about Nightingale and his past. Gussie was great fun to listen to and always amusing. Can't wait for more.

Not as good as her other books

Too many characters, too many talking animals-all of them with "regular names" and human attributes. I could not keep track of who was speaking, what the species was, what the heck was happening to whom etc.Too rambling with too many distractions going on at the same time. And the narrator would have been ok except he narrated all of the Alex Versus books which I have listened too and his distinctive voice and style made me think I was somehow listening to that series. Tried to finish it but really didn't care enough to do so.

Rivers of London should stay there.

I love Rivers of London, Peter Grant and Nightingale and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith-So stop taking this series elsewhere. The story is not as good somehow and I could not get into it as I do with the original. I had a head jerk moment every time the narrator said Parker instead of Parka-which was said a lot by the way. Please at least get an American to narrate stories set in America if you must go there. The story was just ok and I didn't really keep with who was who here, admittedly nodding off now and again while listening.

great new series

I read all the Alex Verus books and was waiting for something new from Benedict Jacka and was not disappointed by the new series. Good narration and the London setting make it all the more enjoyable. Hobbs is a great character who I love and got very choked up over as well. Hope to see more of him in the next book as well a the interesting magic system introduced here.

I read this book so many times growing up and have several copies of it. It has been made into so many poor movies that the original is the best. The reading of this was wonderfully done and brought tears as it as always.

Interesting story of a great horse

I was drawn to this book as a horse racing fan who lived through this era and never could stand Buddy Delp and now I know why. The story of the events and people behind the scenes and details of what was happening was fascinating and did bring out the truth of what was really going on that we never really got while it was unfolding . My main complaint was the author's meandering deep and far off the subject on many different tangents. When I first started the book I was wondering if I had gotten the wrong one since it went on and on with nothing to do with racing and this happened all throughout the book. The other annoyance was the horrible mispronunciation of anything said in Spanish - a tip here-if you want to narrate your own book check pronunciations. I was intrigued by the meat of the story and the sad ending of the horse who never really did become a good sire, and the lost lives of the people around him.
