Historia
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Historia
Ten years ago, Theodora “Teddy” Angstrom’s older sister, Angie, went missing. Her case remains unsolved. Now Teddy’s father, Mark, has killed himself. Unbeknownst to Mark’s family, he had been active in a Reddit community fixated on Angie, and Teddy can’t help but fall down the same rabbit hole. Teddy’s investigation quickly gets her in hot water with her gun-nut boyfriend, her long-lost half brother, and her colleagues at the prestigious high school where she teaches English.

Interesting but Confounding
Revisado: 06-02-24
Some great parallel themes running through this story-complications of sibling love in second families, homes broken by drug addiction and irretrievable loss but the author tries to tie it all off a bit too neatly so I gave it 4’s across the board instead of a 5.
Maybe because the narrator is so unreliable (understandably so given her situation), the cozy ending rings false to me.
A great relationship with an aging family dog is shown beautifully and that alone is enough for me to highly recommend this one.

Historia
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

The Perfect Pairing
Revisado: 05-02-24
It doesn’t get much better than an Anthony Horwitz story narrated by Rory Kinnear .
This is the 4th in a series and the time line is challenging to follow. But the plot twist in the end ties it all today with a perfect surprise bow.
I will also read the story soon, yes it’s that delightful.

Historia
This best-selling debut by an award-winning writer is both an eerie contemporary ghost story and a dread-inducing psychological thriller. Maggie is a successful young artist who has had bad luck with men. Her last put her in the hospital and, after she’s healed physically, left her needing to get out of London to heal mentally and find a place of quiet that will restore her creative spirit. On the rugged west coast of Ireland, perched on a wild cliff side, she spies the shell of a cottage that dates back to Great Famine and decides to buy it.

Really loved this. Great portrayal of the endless cycle violence sets in motion, especially when fueled by intolerance and ignorance.
Also one of the better stories I’ve seen so far that address the everyday difficulties of life with aging loved ones during COVID-19.

Historia
One summer day, Margaux Fragoso meets Peter Curran at the neighborhood swimming pool, and they begin to play. She is seven; he is 51. When Peter invites her and her mother to his house, the little girl finds a child’s paradise of exotic pets and an elaborate backyard garden. Her mother, beset by mental illness and overwhelmed by caring for Margaux, is grateful for the attention Peter lavishes on her, and he creates an imaginative universe for her, much as Lewis Carroll did for his real-life Alice.

Horrible narration

Such a well written book deserved a narrator who follows the written word without injecting his breathless, inconsistent delivery. Doesn’t anyone edit the voice work? Numerous mid-pronunciations and bizarre delivery. He sounds like Rep. Kevin McCarthy.
