Great reading (from Edward Herrmann) but not great

I saw this book on Audible because I was looking for audiobooks that are read by Edward Herrmann because I just love the way he reads a book. I enjoyed the reading, and I enjoyed, for the most part, most of this story. But it’s bland and not all that exciting. A lot of repeats, it feels like, about how this wonderful couple appreciated each other.
I absolutely adore Christopher Reeves. I am glad to know more about him, but I didn’t love this book.

Much better than the movie
Revisado: 11-05-22
I watched the movie based on this book randomly several years ago because I like Ashley Judd a lot. I had no idea it was based on a book. When I read on screen that there was a novel, of course I had to chase after it. I liked it so much I decided to get the audiobook from the library so I can listen to it while showering. I had no idea the author was going to read it but I immediately fell in like with her voice. I don’t know how to describe it. It is so warm, inviting, hilarious and emotional all at the same time. Because it’s her story, she reads it like no one else will. I cannot recommend it enough. If you liked the movie, you are going to love this audiobook.

Maybe a little premature, but I dug it
Revisado: 11-05-22
I don’t understand actors who write memoirs before they hit 50, but this was so beloved by all kinds of people, I thought I’d give it a shot. Like most people, I came to know Simu Liu from Kim’s Convenience, and I didn’t know about him really at all until I started listening to his story. Here’s why it gets a 5 star from me: he doesn’t read your his story, he tells it to you as if you’re in the room with him. I love the raw emotions he reaches when he talks about the heartbreaks of his life. I just love this immigrant’s family story. I seriously cannot recommend this audiobook enough. I don’t know how it reads on a page, but Simu’s sincerity rings clear as a bell when he tells you his tale.

Read by Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, Kathleen Turner, and Matthew Broderick, here are the stories of the immortals of Olympus - the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece - as freshly described as if they were alive today. Mighty Zeus, with his fistful of thunderbolts; mischievous little Hermes; grey-eyed Athena, godess of wisdom; Asclepius, the first physician; Orpheus and his beloved Euridice; Helios the sun, crossing the heavens in his fiery chariot....

The best way to read the Book of Greek Myths!

Solid performances by all the actors
Revisado: 11-05-22
What brought me to the audio version of this book was the fact that Sidney Poitier is one of the narrators. I am one of the the biggest Poitier fans you’ll ever meet in my generation, since my generation has NO CLUE what a phenomenon Mr. Poitier is. But what I am genuinely SHOCKED about is how good EVERYONE is who narrates it. I was NOT surprised about Kathleen Turner since she’s known for her voice, but let’s just say that I didn’t think I would’ve loved hearing Ferris Bueller narrate Greek tales, but y’know what? The righteous dude did well!!! The physical book itself is a must-have if you’re into Greek mythology at all, but I seriously wouldn’t skip on the audiobook either.

Not what you think it’s going to be. It’s better.
Revisado: 11-05-22
This is my first time reviewing an audiobook. I wanted to write this one because I was genuinely shocked by how different the reality was compared to what I thought it was going to be. Like the rest of the world my age, I am a fan of the TV show Friends. Oddly enough, I became more of a fan after it came off TV and went into syndicate than while it was on live, all throughout my college years. So when I heard that Matthew Perry was going to write a book, I thought this is going to be so great. 8 hours of Chandler being Chandler.
As all the reviews will tell you, that’s NOT what this is. In fact, he doesn’t even SOUND like Chandler. He sounds like a man who is really struggling to put it all together. Matthew Perry was brave for putting it all out there, and as every reviewer will tell you, he will make you chuckle and he’ll make you think. I am so glad I took a chance on this Audible title. I’m usually a scardy cat who wants to be SURE to like something before buying it, but I dove head first into this and I am so glad that I did.
