Historia
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Disappointment, much and more
Revisado: 08-22-22
Much disappointment over a book of dry genealogy, one family after another. No desire to retain the hundreds of characters born and died is elicited. Simon Vance does as best as is possible performing; a few recitations have an actual story to follow or care about; and GRRM’s unquestionable mastery when actually telling a story … all kept me listening to the end. An abrupt and unsatisfying end.
More disappointment after waiting years and years for this result. Will be interesting to see what HBO can do with this. Until then, a not-as-loyal fan will await TWOW.

Highly recommended series for any age
Revisado: 10-31-19
This review is of the whole series which has sadly come to an end with the death of the author and performer both. I’m well past the recommended age for readership of this series but thoroughly enjoyed it for years and feel it’s suitable for nearly any age. I am truly mourning the loss of the high spirited heroin, Jackie. I laughed aloud at some of her sayings and antics, cried with her tragedies, and cheered her upbeat, unflappable spirit and wit. I feel I’ve lost good friends in Jackie, L.A. Meyer, and the talented Katherine Kellgren. God speed one and all.

Please change Janelle’s voice back!
Revisado: 09-24-19
Not only is the change in accents from previous books different and strange, the tone is very off-putting. I cringe every time. Otherwise good series and performance of other than the main one.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Journey of a lifetime
Revisado: 04-24-18
This series is a work of art – a masterpiece at that. It weaves poetry, literature, painting, music, food, locales and other art forms with storytelling at its best, always a mystery to solve (the least of which is the murder) and character development that yields life-long friends. If you’re looking for a page turning thriller, which I sometimes am, this isn’t for you. But, if you have patience, this series unfolds as an exquisite flower unveiling its beauty ever more with each and every book. The first few books especially require patience to fall into the rhythm, dry humor, and cadence of the story as well as the accent of the narrator. While I first found the accent hard to hear with uncommon (to me) names and places, I deeply missed that voice when he passes away after book 10. All of that said, I wish you as delightful and fulfilling a journey as I have had, with many thanks to the author, Louise Penny.

Snooze!
Revisado: 02-22-18
Absolutely couldn’t get into this book! Tried for 10 chapters and gave up. Maybe I missed a previous book but I couldn’t get the thread of the story (which was boring to boot) or care about any of the characters. I’ve been an audible customer for years and listened to hundreds of books. This is the first one I gave up on.
