Historia
When the pandemic hit in 2020, flour and vegetable seeds flew off the shelves. But homesteader and entrepreneur Jill Winger believes these longings for sourdough bread and fresh veggies are more than a trend. As our society races toward progress, we’ve left something important behind. We are more connected than ever before, yet we’re still feeling unfulfilled. In Old-Fashioned on Purpose, Winger shows how simplifying our lives and adopting retro skills such as gardening and handiwork can be the key to creating the happy and healthy life we’re yearning for.

A beautiful and wise book
Revisado: 03-14-25
A beautiful book that was life-changing for me and even if it doesn't have such a dramatic impact are you, it will give you a fresh perspective on life today. There is a lot of wisdom and hope in this book. I highly recommend it!

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Familiar plot but well written
Revisado: 03-09-25
This was well written with some great twists. Although it's a familiar plot with stereotypical characters, the author will keep your interest all the way to the end

Marcus Bridgewater has been compared to Bob Ross and Mister Rogers for his soothing TikTok videos that relate botany to humanity. A gardener “who shares tips about caring for one’s plants and oneself” (New York Times) and “is not only a trove of information if you’re looking to flex your green thumb, but a balm for the pandemic-induced chaos happening in the world” (Vogue), his soothing observations on plants and life have made him a social media star. In caring for over 600 plants, Marcus has gained invaluable wisdom.

Historia
He proposed . . . and I said yes. Normally a jovial occasion for a couple in love, but this proposal has a very different feel. Because the man that I'll be calling my husband blew into town with one thing on his mind . . . to make my life a living nightmare. So why did I say yes? Well, because we both need something from each other. Namely, I want the farm land he currently owns, and he needs a wife in order to inherit his family cabin in his grandfather’s will. So as he so eloquently put it, my hand, for his land.

Fun story but flaws
Revisado: 02-11-25
Narration was excellent and and the story was enjoyable, but bthere were some flaws that were hard to accept. First, totally unrealistic two young, single , healthy adults slept in the same bed together night after night and not become intimate. A lot happened and only in one week? totally unrealistic, but if you can accept those things, it's an enjoyable read.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Darker than what I expected
Revisado: 01-20-25
From the cover and summary, I thought this would be an interesting and fun book to read. It was, initially, and she did a very good job of revealing what it was like to be a woman in the 50s, but then it turned dark and very sad. I didn't finish the book. Maybe it becomes uplifting, inspiring, valuable lessons learned, but the sadness in the following chapters, I didn't want to go through.
If you are interested in this book, just be prepared for it to make a dramatic turn

Historia
When Lucie Amundsen had a rare night out with her husband, she never imagined what he'd tell her over dinner - that his dream was to quit his office job (with benefits!) and start a commercial-scale pasture-raised egg farm. His entire agricultural experience consisted of raising five backyard hens, none of whom had yet laid a single egg. To create this pastured poultry ranch, the couple scrambles to acquire nearly 2,000 chickens - all named Lola.

A delightful book
Revisado: 08-04-24
This is a delightful book with a lot of humor and struggle to start an egg company. But this is more than just a story of one couple's struggle and eventual "success." They are helping to change the structure of our food supply from behemoth corporation farms to those barely surviving with what is called middle farms . You need to read the book to find out more and it's very interesting. I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed
As a side note , I was not liking Jason at all initially because he gave ultimatums – I want to start an egg farm. I want to buy a farm, we can move into the farmhouse. No sense of working as a team, or his asking how do you feel about this commitment, or would you be willing to go along with it, But then later on, when she had to make her own ultimatum, although it wasn't what he wanted, he agreed to do it for her. And in time, she embraced this new way of life.

Great characters and story
Revisado: 07-07-24
This is a great story with romance, mystery, many layers and a twist. I've never been disappointed by the coffee house series and this one was also excellent.
The descriptions of the coffee and all the books are so rich and delicious which is an added treat and I don't even drink coffee . The only downside, was Claire , the main character , witnesses another character's head blown off. After that, everything went back to normal, and I would think she would at the very least, need therapy after witnessing such a brutal scene. I would've been much happier with just a gunshot.
However, still great story

Historia
Everyone refers to the St. Cecelia as “the Saint.” If you grew up coming here, you were “a Saint.” If you came from the wrong side of the river, you were “an Ain’t.” Traci Eddings was one of those outsiders whose family wasn’t rich enough or connected enough to vacation here. But she could work here. One fateful summer she did, and married the boss’s son. Now, she’s the widowed owner of the hotel, determined to see it return to its glory days, even as staff shortages and financial troubles threaten to ruin it. Plus, her greedy and unscrupulous brother-in-law wants to make sure she fails.

Not a lighthearted cozy completely
Revisado: 06-19-24
I was looking for a light, fun mystery, and this seemed to be the ticket. It was not. It started out that way but after the first mystery, which I thought was going to be the main one, came a second and the story became very dark. In addition, after a few pages, the main characters affected by this went on with life as if it were normal again which is totally unrealistic. It would take the characters a long time to get over what happened. So you are left with, is this a cozy, is this a dark story, no wait it's a cozy ?
Also, I didn't care for the narrator. She sounded like a little girl. Some of her voices for the other characters were better, but for the main character, I felt like I was listening to a 16-year-old.

After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Clever idea for a story but…
Revisado: 06-06-24
First, I didn't finish this book and maybe all of the characters redeemed themselves. The premise of the story was good, but it's composed of very depressing people. There is not a redeemable
quality among them except maybe the podcaster. I also found it very creepy when the main female character would hear voices that whispered to her how to murder someone . CREEPY . I hardly warmed up to her. Pretty depressing book and I wouldn't recommend it.
