Historia
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. As Jin, I’m a man of the earth. A wielder of shovels and lord of rice and wheat. And sure, I also had to die and get pulled into another universe to end up here. But guess what? I’m starting to think it was worth it. I’ve somehow managed to get away from it all.

Best story arc in the series
Revisado: 11-26-23
The Dueling Peaks arc in BOC has the best of the first two volumes in terms of wholesome character growth and world building, but with more comedy and action thrown in.

Feels like a D&D dungeon crawl
Revisado: 11-06-21
Seems like there's less character and plot development than previous books until the last few chapters when everything suddenly happens all at once. Most of the book is a D&D style dungeon crawl: lots of creative traps, interesting enemies, and a couple of very respectable boss fights. Definitely worth a listen.

Like listening to an old radio show
Revisado: 07-23-20
A great performance by all of the cast, engaging set of stories, and a musical score that was as close to perfect as I've heard on Audible made this an instant favorite for me.
Just a heads up, about a third to a half of the runtime was the main story, and the rest was made up of several shorter, loosely connected stories. I was a little bothered when I realized it wasn't a single larger/longer plotline, but the shorter ones were of such high quality I didn't even mind that. Try this book, and you'll be glad you did.

Good, but it's only half of a story.
Revisado: 07-17-20
I loved the book, and the narrator is just about perfect as usual. My only gripe is that the pacing seems like this was meant to be the first half of a larger book. By the end, there are several plot threads left dangling just as they seem to have reached their highest tension. I know it's a serial series, but Butcher is usually better about ending each episode at a stopping point where the characters could conceivably take a moment to regroup.

More Stats and pop-ups than most LitRPGs
Revisado: 04-12-19
The performance was very well done, but the good news mostly ends there. The story is a bit generic, and the characters rather thin, but neither of those is necessary bad or unexpected. The long *long* blocks of endlessly repetitive stats really broke up the story's momentum and spoiled immersion for me. I've enjoyed many LitRPGs on Audible, but the stats and focus on technical game mechanics seemed really excessive in this one.

Firefly cranked up on Meth plus a Space Wizard!
- De LITRPG Audiobook Reviews en 04-27-18
Best value for the credit I've gotten all year
Revisado: 12-28-18
The stories have a clear Firefly vibe, but with space wizards, multiple alien species, and an ending that is satisfying while leaving the door wide open to future stories in the universe. Give this one a try if you like SciFi/Fantasy, and you'll have weeks of entertainment (or days if you binge listen like I did).

Historia
Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but longstanding enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

The Mary Sue crew runs the show
Revisado: 08-02-18
If you thought Malcolm or Raithe would have any real spotlight, or development, prepare to be disappointed. Worse, every single male character is either useless, weak, dishonorable, or a condescending jerk. All but the potter with a speech impediment are left paper thin. Meanwhile, the women are almost universally flawless other than a lack of confidence. This leads to a lot of cringy dialog toward the end where they basically fight the living embodiment of patriarchy.

The wait for book 2 will be rough...
Revisado: 10-13-16
A bit predictable at times, but the story itself is very engaging and the character development seems much deeper than in most novels in the genre. Often the first book in a series is a slow slog of world building: boring conversation, and dusty librarians, etc providing lazy exposition. In contrast Dawn of Wonder managed to do a great deal of world-building while keeping it fun, action-oriented, and seamlessly folded into the plot. My one regret with the purchase was that only the first book is currently out, and waiting for the next one is going to be a bummer. On the bright side, that means I'll have an excuse to re-listen to this one when the next in the series is released.
