A Bit too Cheesy
Revisado: 10-04-23
Less about hemophilia and more about bikes and racing would have been better. And the author spends so much of the book thanking this person and that person and that organization and how great is his family.....makes you cringe a bit. Anyway some people will like this stuff.

In the years that John Howard served in the national parliament he came to understand the special character of Australia; to appreciate its strengths and weaknesses; and most importantly to respect the sense of balance in the formulation of public policy that has long defined us as a nation and made Australia an attractive destination for people from across the world.

Every Australian born after 1980 should read/listen to this book regardless of your politics. It is more about culture than politics.

Historia
John Clare was a titan in Australian politics. The head of a powerful union and a key player in the election of Kevin Rudd as prime minister in 2007, he had long been tipped as a future leader himself. Supporting him in his push for power were his elegant wife, Grace, his troubled children, Sophie and Toby, and Tessa, the mistress he thought would stay secret. But now John has fallen, brutally, to his death. A terrible accident - or was it?

Put This Author in your Little Black Book
Revisado: 02-28-22
Witty, clever, funny, intelligent and sad. The mystery is not classic but what a journey this book is from start to finish. Loved the smart mouthing Sophie. You could base a series on this character. The narrator did a top job and is perfectly suited to capturing the full range of emotions in this book.

Historia
Virtually all Americans above a certain age hold strong opinions about Douglas MacArthur. They either worship him or despise him. Now, in this superb book, one of our most outstanding writers, after a meticulous three-year examination of the record, presents his startling insights about the man. The narrative is gripping, because the general's life was fascinating. It is moving, because he was a man of vision. It ends, finally, in tragedy, because his character, though majestic, was tragically flawed.

A Great Leader....indeed.
Revisado: 06-02-10
I must admit I didn't expect such a balanced account. A real leader of leaders in a time of many great leaders. You will love him or hate him but it is impossible to remain indifferent. I became immersed in the life of the man and the history of the time. The narrator did a top job.
