I'm not sure what's come over me this summer - my Autumn reading habits filled with books of unknowable horrors and ominous forests, monopolizing my July. Actually I do know, it's Andrew Van Wey! I read Head Like A Hole in record time, and dove straight into this, By The Light of Dead Stars. I haven't had this much fun with a new author in a while. This book checks some of my favorite horror book boxes; endless childhood summers and haunted pasts (kids on bikes!), Eldritch horrors, suburban nightmares. I love when a story's world building is super solid like this, where a town has a clear identity, and the setting feels like a time capsule. If you enjoy Steven King or Joe Hill, Stranger Things, the like, you'll probably love this. I'd say this book was a lot tamer than Head Like A Hole, which was full of visceral body horror (it was great!) But if that's not your thing, this is more cerebral creepy. This book was great fun.

Sarah J Maas is always so fun to read. I liked Crescent City and how it felt a little more "modern" while still being a fully realized magical world. Her world building is excellent and even though the main characters journey is a little predictable, if you've read her other books, it's still a joy to read. If you like Throne of Glass or ACOTAR, give it a go.
And can't fail to mention reader Elizabeth Evans. I'd listen to her explain golf. She's amazing and makes the book so much better than just reading on your own. She has a gift for voices -- she makes men sound believable, all characters distinguishable, and brings so much life. It's the total package. Now I'm going to throw myself into the next book, House of Sky and Breath this instant.

I devoured all 5 of these books in 25 days... That has been my January. The books in this series are shorter than what I usually read/listen to, so that's probably apart of it lol, but I was seriously obsessed. I'll be reading everything this woman writes I'm sure. The whole series is fantastic, dark, amusing and spicy. The love interest is a villain, a REAL villain, and he stays that way. Don't wait, spend the credit. Do it now. I hope you have 5 to burn this month 😅.

This series is a magnet. Compared to my usual books, these audio books are all fairly short, so I've been tearing through this series. But I LOVE everything about it. So creative and unique of a concept. Everything you want from a paranormal romance.
