Historia
Shortly before he passed away, on January 4, 2015, Stuart Scott completed work on this memoir. It was both a labor of love and a love letter to life itself. Not only did Stuart relate his personal story - his childhood in North Carolina, his supportive family, his athletic escapades, his on-the-job training as a fledgling sportscaster, his being hired and eventual triumphs at ESPN - but he shared his intimate struggles to keep his story going.

Great insight for a great person
Revisado: 07-29-17
I gave this book a top rating because I like how the stories were told & I am a big fan of Stuart Scott. Parts of this book is really hard to listen to do today content about cancer and the difficulties that he had to face but I appreciate having insight on that from the perspective that I've never heard before.
One of the things that I'll never forget is the part about how a cancer patient is addressed by different people whom for the most part, or trying to be supportive but at times just seem to be reminding the person that they are a cancer patient.
I really miss Stuart Scott on SportsCenter so having this book to get to know him a little more personally was a great thing to me.

Historia
With a sensibility that recalls her beloved screen characters, including Yvette, Queenie, Shug, and the iconic Cookie from Empire, yet is all Taraji, the screen actress writes of her families - the one she was born into and the one she created. She shares stories of her father, a Vietnam vet who was bowed but never broken by life's challenges, and of her mother, who survived violence both in the home and on DC's volatile streets. Here, too, she opens up about her experiences as a single mother.

I feel like I know her! Well written and well read
Revisado: 05-18-17
This book was fabulous. It felt like she was reading to me personally and I just wanted to hear everything that she had to say. The details were very vivid and I couldn't wait to hear what happened next. Taraji reminds me of everything that I love about the 90s. I'm going to listen to this again..

Historia
If anyone knows tough, it’s Jay Bilas. A four-year starter at Duke, he learned an incomparable work ethic under coach Mike Krzyzewski, battling against the greatest college players in the game. After playing professionally overseas for several years, he returned to Duke, where he served as Krzyzewski’s assistant coach for three seasons, during which the Blue Devils won back-to-back titles. Featuring never-before-heard stories and personal philosophies on toughness from top players and coaches, Bilas redefines what it takes to succeed.

Very good lessons in toughness

Great book with lessons to live by
Revisado: 09-10-16
This is my second time listening to Toughness by Jay Bilas. I love the stories and how each story ties into a core part of the message that toughness is built on quality character traits and values that make you a really great person.
I train basketball players & I've used bookmarks and clips for almost every chapter which I share with my players via the 30 second links. One of the greatest is, "having fun is doing hard things well".
Jay's narration was engaging in personal, especially in moments when he had written about making mistakes and his lessons learned.
The message in this book is really important in today's culture of instant everything and expected entitlement. This should be required reading for athletes and nonathletes alike.
