Historia
After the Final War, after the appearance of the Bug aliens and their enforced peace, Shining Smith is still alive, still doing business from the old scrapyard bequeathed to her by her father. But Shining is now something more than human. And the scrapyard is no longer just a scrapyard, but a place full of secrets. This life she has built, while empty, is predictable and safe. Until the only friend left from her previous life shows up, dead, in the back of a scrapped Tesla warplane. Clutched in her cold fingers is a note to Shining - warning her of a coming attack.

I’m a fan of Faith Hunter but I have to say this was a disturbing, depressing overly technical story. Maybe for some but definitely not for me.

I really enjoyed this book! From the main character to the narrator and the story line, it all added up for me. I know it’s geared towards younger listeners but I’m glad I didn’t let that stop me. Love the audible originals!

Here at Audible, we know just how much of an impact a voice can have on a story - taking simple words and filling them with elation, wonderment, tragedy, or pure satisfaction. We rely on our narrators every day to bring our favorite stories and characters to life - to introduce us to new authors and genres, or even to a new (perhaps longer) commute. And though our narrators are the best story tellers in the business, it's usually someone else's that they're telling.

This is the perfect holiday read (listen)! I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you so much for allowing us a small glimpse of your personal stories. I also love to wrap presents, and I like to do it while listening to Christmas stories and I did that today while listening to yours.

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Revisado: 08-10-12
What disappointed you about Twilight?
Everything
How could the performance have been better?
The narrater can only work with what she's got.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Twilight?
The language. No teenager talks like this!! As the mother of 3, (all off to college), I am here to say that the language in this book is beyond belief. My kids had a pretty good vocabulary but they still talked like kids. Not in their wildest dreams would they say something like - "I swiftly looked away", ect.... I can't even remember all the lines in this book that made me cringe. There wasn't a sincere teenage sentence in the whole book. This was pure crap. Like a reality tv show...they suck but the ratings are through the roof.
Any additional comments?
I never got into this book when in first came out. I am a fan of the paranormal/fantasy books and I love a good vampire read but I thought this was for kids. When I was looking for something to listen to on vacation I picked this up. Big mistake. This is the worst book ever. The writing is SO bad. What kind of teenager talks likes this..."I was in disbelief", "he seemed engrossed in our conversation", "my thoughts were unmanagable", "I tried to sound indifferent", "he was chivalrous", "from a perefrial view",
"I swiftly looked away". Caaa-monnnnn!!! Who talks like this....let alone a teenager! How in the world did this get so popular. And made into four movies no less. It just goes to show that you don't have to have any talent...you just have to hit the right thing at the right time. AWFUL...

Narration is great...
Revisado: 05-03-12
What did you love best about A Discovery of Witches?
The info and history of Oxford.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I actually loved the character of Sophie - the demon. She doesn't come in to the story until very nearly the end but I loved her sweet nature and her complete trust in the fact that good would triumph over evil.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Diana kills Juliette.
Any additional comments?
I wasn't keen on reading this book based on some of the reviews but I got a good deal on it and picked it up. Well - I really enjoyed it. I think that the narration really made the book, she did such an amazing job with the different accents and made each character individual. Her description of Oxford and the history was great. From someone who was prepared to NOT like this book, I am now eagerly awaiting the second.

They grew on me...
Revisado: 04-04-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book. It's funny and gruesome at the same time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Debt?
It wasn't just one moment...It's the breakup of Henry, Vicky and Tony. Going their seperate ways.
What about Justine Eyre’s performance did you like?
She definetly grew on me. When I first listened to book 1 - I was NOT a fan of her narration at all. But since listening to the next couple of books I have changed my mind. I really like the way she does Vicky. She brings her to life and makes me laugh out loud. But I'm not a fan of her Celluci.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Vicky does make me laugh.
Any additional comments?
I really like this series. It keeps the action going and throws in some humor.

The Narration....AGHHHHHHHHHH...
Revisado: 03-27-12
If you could sum up Blood Bank in three words, what would they be?
This book combined two of my favorite things...Vicky Nelson and short stories. But the narrator is just TERRIBLE! Especially her depiction of Mike Celluci, please, could she sound any more ridiculous. It really ruins the whole series for me. I was initially introduced to this series as a short story in another book and the narrator was different, she was VERY good. That is what turned me on to this author. I am managing to squeek through these books because I do like the characters and the stories but I don't know how much more I can take.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Bank?
I like the vulnerabillity of Henry in one of the stories.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Almost 100%!
