Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Excellent first part, unrealistic second half, end
Revisado: 04-28-19
After a slow start we became very involved in the story until the time of the trial. This was so unrealistic we started to lose interest and laughed at the unrealistic ending.
Obviously this was apparently written for the movies, or the author just got tired of the story and didn't know how to end it.
We won't be reading any more of her books.

Historia
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Entertaining, well worth the time to listen too
Revisado: 02-18-19
We enjoyed the story and the characters. Some of the story was distracting by the unbelievable events, but overall a really great story.
The performance was distracting at times. An excellent reader was used fo some characters, but his voice was so distinctive that it interfered with the story when it was used for some characters (i.e. a villain rather than the hero he normally portrays).
Normally we would have considered the plot unbelievable, but with the recent events, it was all too believable.
Still, well worth the time spent listening to it, it kept our interest.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

One of the best!
Revisado: 05-27-18
I started listening to this book, not knowing a lot about Grant, although I have read a lot on Lincoln and the period. I decided Ron Chernow ranks up there with the best biographers, including my favorite, Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Of course, what I learned about U.S. Grant, he also had wonderful subject. I hope to also read the book, listening to it was a great experience.
I listen to a biography or something to lean as I walk each morning and I found myself looking forward to listening to "Grant" each morning.
Very well written, and very well performed. The narrator literally makes it sounds what I think Grant would sound like!
This really is one of the best, and I am looking forward to listening to all of Chernow's books.

Non-starter. Not worth your time or money
Revisado: 02-26-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Plot was ridiculous. Couldn't stand to listen to it,
Has Sleep Tight turned you off from other books in this genre?
We aren't giving new writers as much consideration as in the past. This was bad.
What three words best describe Hollis McCarthy’s voice?
Cloying, artificial, fake
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No. Don't waste your money or time.
Any additional comments?
Again, don't waste your time or money.

Between 1861 and 1865, the clash of the greatest armies the Western hemisphere had ever seen turned small towns, little-known streams, and obscure meadows in the American countryside into names we will always remember. In those great battles, those streams ran red with blood-and the United States was truly born.

Excellent, kept it interesting
Revisado: 04-27-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this book, especially if you have any interest in history or the Civil War.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Doesn't really apply.
What about Professor Gary W. Gallagher’s performance did you like?
He kept the lectures interesting and relevant to history as well as the present day. I looked forward to listening each day and was sorry when it was over.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
A little long for that.
Any additional comments?
I was very impressed. My last contact with this type of performance was a dry, uninteresting lecture.
This was not a lecture, but a true story telling (with the truth, not a story of course) and it really kept my attention.

Interesting, but written with too much hero worshi
Revisado: 10-04-15
Would you try another book from Ashlee Vance and/or Fred Sanders?
Yes, although with some care. I would really have to be interested in the subject. Fred Sanders was excellent.
Would you be willing to try another book from Ashlee Vance? Why or why not?
Depends on subject. This book was written with way too much hero worship and glossing over of flaws and weak areas
However it contained a lot of very interesting information, written with enough detail to be interesting but not too much to be boring.
Well researched, although the hero worship was troubling.
What does Fred Sanders bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I enjoyed his voice and the attention he gave to to using the appropriate voice/pitch/accent to the character or situation. He did an excellent job
Could you see Elon Musk being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Not really, at least I wouldn't go see the movie.
Any additional comments?
Interesting and informative book. Contains just about the right deal to be interesting but not boring. Very well performed. However, the hero worship at times got in the way of my enjoyment of the book. He has serious flaws, so what?

Bought China alive
Revisado: 05-09-15
Would you listen to Age of Ambition again? Why?
About a year ago, (in fact, exactly a year ago), we spent 18 days in China. I enjoyed the experiences, the people and the country.
This Book really bought out some of the "under currents" I occasionally felt in some of the comments I heard, although the people I met had a lot of pride in their country.
When I return to China, it will be with a lot more understanding because of having read and listened to this book!
It is not a dry, academic review of the authors experience in China. It is wonderfully written and almost reads like a novel.
I certainly want to go back even more after reading this book!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Age of Ambition?
Some of the facts on the advances in China (not exact figures, but something like 20% literacy in 1979 and 90% in 2000!), poor train service until 2003, some of the best in the world now!
What does Evan Osnos and George Backman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I actually read the book and then listened to it. I was surprised at what I got from listening to the book. I seemed to pick up more on the change in culture, the authors experience at living in China and the amazing changes in China in the past 40 years.

Good story, excessive sexual detailed
Revisado: 03-14-15
Would you try another book from Jessica Park and/or Arielle DeLisle?
No, I wouldn't bother with another book by the author. She was apparently too lazy to try to think up new ideas and relied excessively on ridiculous excessive fake sounding sexual behavior. Reader was good
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Eliminated 95% of the sexual detail.
Have you listened to any of Arielle DeLisle’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Don't believe I heard her before.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Left Drowning?
The excessive scenes on sexual behavior.
Any additional comments?
Overall it was a good story, but we won't listen to any more books by this author. We felt the author was just too lazy so she relied on related to extremes tails of sexual behavior that quickly became obscene in their own way.

Good Story, grating voice
Revisado: 08-24-13
This was generally a basic interesting story, that kept our attention while driving. The voice of the reader was horrible. It grated on us and while we didn't stop listening, they need to find someone with a more pleasant voice to read the books.
