Heartwarming!
Revisado: 07-07-19
When we start reading books like this, we know how it's going to end. We know there will be a Happily Ever After, and we crave it. We want to see how it'll happen, how love will come around, what obstacles the couple will face. We want to fall in love with the characters as they are falling for each other.
Barbara Catlin did a wonderful job in this one, as did the narrator Jim Cooper. Only reason I removed a star is because there were times in the beginning I couldn't tell who was speaking, but as I adjusted to his voice I started being able to tell when it was a female part in the dialogue.

The job sounded simple enough. Rid the village of an ogre and rescue the girl. In return, the local lord would overlook that ugly business in the church. It was nothing he hadn’t dealt with before. That was before he heard the howls coming from the Bog of Móin Alúin. Before he crossed paths with the headless rider. Before he woke to find the witch’s crooked fingers on his face. Now, Berengar must unravel the labyrinth of secrets and lies surrounding the village before a deadly curse claims his life, all while a darker evil looms in the shadows....

Simple task turned into a mystery... I was hooked!
Revisado: 07-07-19
Let me start by saying narration is excellent and really set the tone. I was hooked from the beginning, and felt empty when this book ended.
Although formulaic at points, that doesn't distract from the overall quality of the story - after all, fantasy settings have lots in common. I am a fan of The Witcher franchise, and this gave me the same feeling from when I was listening to that series or playing the games. The folklore and immersion were great! Definitely will be looking into more from this author.

What you'd expect... and that's fine
Revisado: 07-07-19
This isn't a groundbreaking, revolutionary story. It does have cliches, tropes, and what you would expect from the average vampire romance, but I enjoyed it. I feel the story could use better editing to shorten some parts and improve dialogue a bit, and that's the reason why I rated it 3 stars instead of 4. However, it was well worth my time! This author has potential and I will keep an eye out for her next books!
The narrator has a pleasant voice, and I feel my usual speed of 1.25x worked well with her.

Barbara Goss strikes again!
Revisado: 07-06-19
I love Barbara Goss stories! They're romantic, heartwarming, and clean.
The Secret Diary follows a somewhat formulaic storytelling which is usual for romance books but often that's just what I need. Add captivating characters and a mystery to be unraveled, and I listened to this book in a single afternoon!

Could not stop listening!
Revisado: 04-04-18
Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?
I became a fan of J. Scott Bennett after listening to him narrate the Titanic story, and he did not disappoint. He has a nice range of voices and conveys many moods!
By far my favorite character - considering both the story and narration - was Brin!
Any additional comments?
I wish this book was turned into a movie, maybe by Disney Studios.
It's not a serious and dark adventure, but a light and romantic one, with touches of humor that made me smile. There is instant love between the characters which I found very pleasantly Disney-like, but I see how some people might be turned off by that so here's my "warning".
The story is not fully contained in this book and the end paves the way for a sequel, so if you're bothered by that it can be a good idea to wait for the next installment. I know I am expecting it eagerly!

Lovely family listen
Revisado: 04-04-18
Any additional comments?
I only regret not coming across this before Easter, so I could listen to it on the holiday.
This was a family-friendly story, very fun and inspiring. I am more of a cat person, but horses are so amazing and have always fascinated me. I wish I had grown up around these majestic creatures!
Being a short book, I finished it in one sitting. The story flows in a pleasant manner and advances quickly, so I believe children and teens can benefit from it without getting bored!
Leslie Howard was a pleasure to listen to, she speaks clearly and voices her characters really well.
Thank you Laura Hesse for the wonderful story!

Historia
Why do we complain of Nature? She has shown herself kindly; life, if you know how to use it, is long. But one man is possessed by an avarice that is insatiable, another by a toilsome devotion to tasks that are useless; one man is besotted with wine, another is paralyzed by sloth; one man is exhausted by an ambition that always hangs upon the decision of others, another, driven on by the greed of the trader, is led over all lands and all seas by the hope of gain; some are tormented by a passion for war and are always either bent upon inflicting danger upon others.

Life is short...
Revisado: 04-04-18
Any additional comments?
Narration was solid and kept me attentive, considering this is not a story to be followed.
The stoics have always intrigued me, and I was pleased to take this audiobook with me while running. The new translation surprised me at times, but I felt it was a nicely done update even though I prefer the original text.
If you're into philosophy, definitely give this a try.

Finished in a day!
Revisado: 04-04-18
Any additional comments?
This was much more of a fast-paced thriller than a zombie story, so if you're not much into all this zombie apocalypse stuff you'll still be able to enjoy this - a lot!
The pace of the story was accelerated but not too fast, and some events/situations that some might deem far-fetched made it all the more enjoyable because of all the twists and turns. It's a fiction book, not a memoir!
Rebecca Roberts does a wonderful job narrating this book, I really loved her voice and found myself hanging onto her every word. Definitely will keep an eye out for her!
I found myself becoming a fan of Ashley Fontainne and her ability to write. I'm a zombie fan, but loved that this was a thriller! I've noticed that she has written many other thrillers/mysteries/suspense books, and I will surely give them a try!

I love clean reads like this!
Revisado: 04-04-18
Any additional comments?
My job allows me to listen to audiobooks a lot. I mean, sometimes multiple books a day. I am a romantic at heart, and "clean reads" often feature in my weekly books lists. I must say this was one of my favorites as of late.
I loved seeing how the hero and heroine got to know and slowly fall for each other, how Marty defied conventions to do what felt right, and how Julian was able to overcome his own prejudices.
It reminded me of Pride and Prejudice, but with more action going on throughout the pages! Definitely recommend.

Loved it
Revisado: 04-04-18
Any additional comments?
I confess I love to read/listen to books of the post-apocalyptic genre. This one was an easy listen, all zombies considered. It wasn't anything groundbreaking or genre-altering, but all the more enjoyable in its zombieness.
The characters were enjoyable, the story had its moments of tension and paved the way for a sequel. Narration was good, I really loved Mr. Wehrlen's voice... although I do have a little bit of a hearing problem and at times felt it was too low or hard to discern. Nothing turning up the volume a bit didn't fix.
All in all, a cool book for zombie/post-apocalyptic junkies looking for their next fix. Will certainly check out more books from the author!
