Historia
Shuggie’s mother Agnes walks a wayward path: She is Shuggie’s guiding light but a burden for him and his siblings. She dreams of a house with its own front door while she flicks through the pages of the Freemans catalogue, ordering a little happiness on credit, anything to brighten up her grey life. Married to a philandering taxi-driver husband, Agnes keeps her pride by looking good - her beehive, make-up, and pearly-white false teeth offer a glamourous image of a Glaswegian Elizabeth Taylor.

Addictions war against love…
Revisado: 03-10-25
A heartbreaking yet beautiful tale that captures the raw struggles of love, poverty, and addiction. Through the eyes of young Shuggie, Stuart paints an intimate portrait of resilience and compassionate love as he navigates the harsh realities of his mother Agnes’s alcoholism and the brutal world around them. The prose is both lyrical and unflinchingly honest.

“James” arrives as a literary classic!
Revisado: 10-23-24
What sets “James” above Everett’s previous novels, as casually and caustically funny as many are, is that here the humanity is turned up — way up. This is Everett’s most thrilling novel, but also his most soulful. Beneath the wordplay, and below the packed dirt floor of Everett’s moral sensibility, James is an intensely imagined human being.

A Literary Tour De Force. One of the best books I’ve EVER read!
Revisado: 03-28-24
This novel is truly a literary masterpiece. I found myself steeped in envy for the authors depth of imagination and alchemy with words. The heart wrenching and soul crushing trauma of Jude’s formative years helped me to unpack the sorrows and abuses of my own childhood at the hands of my father the perfectly allowed me to process the pain & scars I was left with in ways I had not been able to articulate. The power of friendship and the courage, patience & compassion to love someone imprisoned by evils endured when they were defenseless. This book will transcend time and bring healing & transformation to all who have suffered hellish childhoods. I am forever grateful for the privilege of reading such masterpiece of literature. Hanya joins the rare pantheon of godlike writers with the gift of perfectly transcribing with precision the human experience and feeling. One of the best books ever written! ❤️🔥

Historia
What if you woke up one morning and found you’d acquired another self—a double who was almost you and yet not you at all? What if that double shared many of your preoccupations but, in a twisted, upside-down way, furthered the very causes you’d devoted your life to fighting against? Not long ago, the celebrated activist and public intellectual Naomi Klein had just such an experience—she was confronted with a doppelganger whose views she found abhorrent but whose name and public persona were sufficiently similar to her own that many people got confused about who was who.

The Most Important Book Of 2023!!
Revisado: 12-28-23
I’m speechless. The timing of this book in regards to Israel’s
apocalyptic genocide in Palestine is profound. Naomi’s precision in getting to the root and heart of the most pressing issues we are facing globally is awe inspiring. She is a political sage. I finished it in less than 2 days and I’m going to dive in again. Buy it for everyone. Give this book a Pulitzer Prize!!!

Historia
When trying to deal with our current troubles and anxieties, it can be deeply irritating to be asked to consider our childhoods. They happened so long ago; we can probably barely remember, let alone relate to, the little person we once were. But one of the most powerful explanations for why we may, as adults, be struggling, is that we were denied the opportunity to fully be ourselves in our earliest years. This book is a guide to better understanding our younger selves in order to shape who we wish to be in the future.

Historia
Born under different stars—Mungo a Protestant and James a Catholic—they should be sworn enemies if they’re to be seen as men at all. Their environment is a hyper-masculine and sectarian one, for gangs of young men and the violence they might dole out dominate the Glaswegian estate where they live. And yet against all odds Mungo and James become best friends as they find a sanctuary in the pigeon dovecote that James has built for his prize racing birds.

A Towering Achievement Of Masterful Storytelling!
Revisado: 11-30-23
It is clear why this novel has amassed such critical acclaim. The way in which Douglas embodies & articulates the soul of each character with such spellbinding alchemy & raw vulnerability is the work of a truly anointed writer leaps and bounds beyond his most seasoned and revered colleagues. Young Mongo will become a literary classic & cement Douglas Stuart amongst the greats. A Compelling, heartfelt & heartbreaking story of a boy coming of age with all the odds stacked against him. You will fall in love with the heart & resilience of young Mungo as fights to be the rose that pushes through concrete. One of the best books I have ever read.
