Historia
It dawned on me one day that most of the scare stories in the media today are based on things that are either invisible, like CO2 and radiation, or very remote, like polar bears and coral reefs. Thus, the average person cannot observe and verify the truth of these claims for themselves. They must rely on activists, the media, politicians, and scientists - all of whom have a huge financial and/or political interest in the subject - to tell them the truth.

Let the authors read their books!!!
Revisado: 11-14-21
Really hate it when the reader isn't familiar with the jargon in the book, or when they get the intonation wrong on a good portion of the sentences. This reading had both issues. Good book, bad reader, and it takes me out of the story when I have to try and figure out what was actually meant by a sentence that is read badly. Patrick Moore does lots of public speaking, there was no reason to have this read by someone else.

Historia
Michael Shellenberger has been fighting for a greener planet for decades. He helped save the world’s last unprotected redwoods. He co-created the predecessor to today’s Green New Deal. And he led a successful effort by climate scientists and activists to keep nuclear plants operating, preventing a spike of emissions. But in 2019, as some claimed "billions of people are going to die", contributing to rising anxiety, including among adolescents, Shellenberger decided that he needed to speak out to separate science from fiction.

Should have narrated for himself
Revisado: 12-20-20
Great book, particularly liked the way he introduces each environmentalist argument by steel manning it, rather than straw manning. Nothing is less persuasive to me than someone who discounts the opposition entirely. Audiobook would be better if self-narrated.

Historia
In The Crowd - A Study of the Popular Mind, social theorist Gustave Le Bon gives historical insight into the political thinking of his era while offering timeless social commentary. Le Bon challenges the listener to contemplate how individual ideas change - often to a destructive end - when employed in a setting of groupthink. As technology and communications innovations make group formation easy and accessible for better or for worse, this book's message is certainly one that will not be lost in the crowd.

Narrator is pronouncing words not understanding
Revisado: 11-05-20
This is the worst audio book I've listened to. The book uses somewhat arcane 19th century language that has been translated to English, and the narrator seems as though he is struggling to get the pronunciation of unfamiliar verbiage right, but in so doing he puts the emphasis on words that aren't important in the sentence. I gave the Story 3 stars, but it might be higher or lower if the narrator weren't so bad that I had a very hard time understanding what he was talking about. If the same sentences were spoken with emphasis where it would make sense I'd be able to follow easily, but I found myself pausing and going back to see how he was incorrectly enunciating, and that was so distracting that the actual meaning of the sentences was lost.
