A description of war, and a prelude to 1984

The narrator was terrific - exquisite British reading, and other accents as well.

Veterans will appreciate the war accounts, travelers will appreciate the differences of countries and their people, and followers of politics will find great insights into the groups behind war, the occasional alliances, and the flaws of bureaucracy and tyranny.

The reading was a monumental task, and as such I feel the need to forgive the occasional word that sounded a little off to my American ears, because of dialect or the listening speed, or unfamiliarity (mine or his).

Those who have read The Iliad will recognize some parallels, gods and men, virtue and treachery, war and forgiveness.

The story takes on a robust fable way of storytelling, like archers sending unending streams of arrows.
No characters are perfect, and none are without sympathy.
As someone with little knowledge of Indian literature, I felt it was a good introduction.

The reader is pretty good at 1.5x, some heavy sibilants.
If you've read many agile books, you will find little new in this one, some success stories. Beyond encouraging companies to be willing to take risks and delegate down, and micro manage less, it doesn't get into agile a lot.

It ties to so many concepts and ideas that I am going to be turning it over for a while.
What kind of world is it set in? How faithful is the narrator? When does cogent thought end, and mental illness begin?

I'm glad this book was written. I hope more are done on the topic.
The author reader was not great, her inflections didn't convey the passion that could have been delivered from the text.
I liked the studies, and the suggestions that came from that empiricism. Kindness is powerful.
Some areas of the book were not so well based on data, but there were still calls to action based on assumptions that might not be true.

A good guide on how to think

Well read.

Some good examples of biases, and some tricks in reporting, that show how little we sometimes understand, and how many parties like it that way.

The best parts of the book teach you how to think about risk.
My least favorite part was related to lifestyle risk, where the author strayed into telling us what to think, about eating and exercising. It's probably good advice, but it's not consistent with the rest of the book.

I usually listen at a fast speed, but this one I listened to at .85x. I don't blame the reader, more the high level of technical information at play. I have a problem with restricting communication, but there are some case studies that support this practice at times.

Excellent narration, believable.

What Goldratt did for TOC and manufacturing, Ching has done for software development and delivery. There is some "stories from the guru on the mountain top", but along the way many people get to contribute their inspiration. A good agile narrative.

The reader was crisp and enjoyable to listen to. Some of his pronunciations were jarring to this American's ears, but it may just have been a dialect I hadn't heard before (one of very many).
The rules and musings and disagreements within paint a grand mosaic of life from 200 BCE and the 12th century AD. There are laws about commerce and crime, shrewd guidance about how to boost revenue for the state, choosing allies, and successors, and the telling is categorized in subjects, so one does not have to flip between books and chapters to follow a topic.

The audio was read with a great voice, and the background was consistent. There were a few retakes that did not get edited out, and that was a little distracting.
I hope my parent's financial advisor has this information, and this book (and the right level of caring).
