Drawing on rarely consulted archives, Crews shows us a man who blundered tragicomically in his dealings with patients, who never produced a corroborated cure, who promoted cocaine in one decade and was deluded by it in the next, who misunderstood the psychological controversies of the era, and who advanced his career through falsifying case histories and betraying the mentors who had helped him to rise.

Freud the Fraud
Revisado: 07-05-19
I have always suspected Freud's theories were more a reflection of the twisted man he was than a viable explanation for the abnormal behavior of mankind. This book not only documents the veracity of my suspicions but goes far beyond them to show what a disingenuous man, physician, and so-called objective researcher he was purported to have been by himself and his conniving followers. He has done more than perhaps anyone single man to convince others of his false notions than most in the field of mental illness. And for what? The age old pursuit of Fame and fortune at the expense of humanity. What a crock! and What a fraud he has perpetrated on mankind; he and his complicit cronies. Thank you Frederick Crews for helping expose the details of his perpetrated fraud; for taking the initial writings Malcolm Macmillan, Han Israels, and Allen Esterson others to the next logical and detailed level.

Historia
America has become increasingly divided and polarized in recent years. With growing animosity toward law enforcement professionals, government corruption, disregard for the constitution, and racial tension thanks to the media and hate groups, there seems to be no easy answer in sight. But Sheriff David Clarke knows where we must begin. We must stop blaming others and take ownership of our families, communities, and country.

Sheriff Clarke is a straight-shooter
Revisado: 06-30-17
Sheriff David Clarke does a good job of sharing where he's coming from, and why he thinks the way he does now. His popularity stems from a no nonsense, straightforward honesty, and dialogue that makes no apology for his conclusions and advice.

Historia
LAPD Detective Harry Bosch tackles three tough cases that span a legendary career in this never-before-collected trio of stories. Utterly unputdownable, they are proof that "Connelly never stops doling out the suspense.... Once it grabs you in those first few pages, it won't let go of you" ( Boston Globe).

Connelly's Bosch is the Bomb
Revisado: 09-09-16
Michael Connect manages to create an imperfect yet likable character with noble attributes (everyone counts or no one counts) who in spite of his rough start in life (son of a single mother prostitute which mother is murdered in his youth) is determined to bring justice to murderers of every stripe and walk of life. His efforts inspire others to do well in spite of the odds against success precisely because of the intrinsic value in doing the right thing no matter the cost. His determined efforts, though fictional, give hope to how each of us can make the world a better place by pursuing similarly noble objectives in spite of the challenges to success. Hurrah for Hieronymus, the imperfect hero!

Historia
Militant atheism is on the rise. In recent years, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens have produced a steady stream of best-selling books denigrating religious belief. These authors are merely the leading edge of a larger movement that includes much of the scientific community. In response, mathematician David Berlinski, himself a secular Jew, delivers a biting defense of religious thought.

excellent insight
Revisado: 05-19-16
a thoughtful and informative review of so-called scientific claims that atheism is more reasonable than theism; exposes the greater faith required to believe in the premise of a so-called "Landscape" or "megaverse" that cannot be scientifically validated by experiment or even observation but is merely conjecture to satisfy the preconceived and preferential desires or outcomes of some atheistic scientists. Berlinski nicely argues the lack of evidence and indeed greater faith required to believe such a motion, and I would add in the face of zero witnesses! at least Christianity had myriad witnesses that have not only out their money where mouth is, but have literally given their all not the least of whom include Jesus Christ, and the holy prophets and apostles both before and after the Lord's exemplary life on earth.

Historia
Here is the gritty, powerful story of Thomas Sowell's life-long education in the school of hard knocks, a journey that took him from Harlem to the Marines, the Ivy League, and a career as a controversial writer, teacher, and economist in government and private industry. It is also the story of the dramatically changing times in which this personal odyssey took place.

An admirably self-made mad against difficult odds.
Revisado: 09-14-15
What made the experience of listening to A Personal Odyssey the most enjoyable?
To learn how an individual with many challenges overcame them and was able rise above it all by following the principles that have led to success from time immemorial, but which seem to be ignored by many in our day for various inadequate excuses. If only we could let the many young people know that there is more success from diligently applying oneself to work rather than asking for or accepting unnecessary handouts.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Thomas Sowell and his persistence in the face of adversity.
What does Jeff Riggenbach bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I can do other things with my hands, like driving, while listening. More efficient use of my driving time.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I don't have that much time.
Any additional comments?
I've been able to "read" more books of interest while commuting to and from work than i've been able to do for several years because of the audible option.
