Historia
Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore. His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing.

An almost perfect work of art
Revisado: 12-31-24
This book has a gripping plot, complex characters and a meaning so deep you will be reflecting on it for weeks after you read the last chapter. It's gruesome, but all of the violence has a point. One of the best dystopian novels ever written.

Historia
The dense Michigan forest. Haunting wails. The clip-clop of demon hooves on a bridge to nowhere. It’s more than a tall tale to Brenda Jennings, whose sister disappeared in those woods one fateful night. Three years later, on a solo stakeout in the dark, Brenda goes in after her. She’s desperate for answers, and terrified to find what lies waiting on the other side of that bridge.

One of the scariest sorry stories I've ever heard! And a fantastic ending. Kept me up past bedtime, listening to find out what happens.

Historia
My name is Danny Day, and I live every day twice. The first time, it's a "discard day". It's kind of like a practice run. At the end of the day, I go to bed, wake up, and poof everything gets reset, everything except my memory, that is. The second time, everything is normal, just like it is for everyone else. That's when everything counts and my actions stick. As you could probably guess, "Sticky Day" Danny is very different from "Discard Day" Danny.

Well Written - Slight Story
Revisado: 07-20-24
The premise is excellent. The prose were better than I hoped for. However, the entire story centers around a video game... which is a waste of a perfectly good idea for a story

Historia
First published in 1962, J.G. Ballard’s mesmerizing and ferociously imaginative novel not only gained him widespread critical acclaim but also established his reputation as one of the finest writers of a generation. The Drowned World imagines a terrifying world in which global warming has melted the ice caps and primordial jungles have overrun a tropical London. Set during the year 2145, this novel follows biologist Dr. Robert Kearns and his team of scientists as they confront a cityscape in which nature is on the rampage and giant lizards, dragonflies, and insects fiercely compete for domination.

All about the spectacle
Revisado: 07-02-24
The reason to read this is the incredible imagry. It haunts the reader and creates a fever dream like experience. However, the plot is thin - almost an afterthought.

Almost perfect
Revisado: 03-18-24
This story uses the device of letters to move the plot forward. Multiple letters are written to the main character from other characters - which is smart, unique and works... except the letters are NEVER explained. No one ever actually reads them except for the audience. And some of the people who were writing letters die... so... how did they write these letters?! They're is a lot of potential here and it's set up nicely to possibly become a series. I will definitely read more if it does since the main character is so compelling.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Slow burning plot based page turner!

Though none of the characters are good people they are, unfortunately, very believable. Because of this - you will care about them and get invested in their stories.

Great! Unless you've read Ripley
Revisado: 11-29-22
Highly unusual. Very suspenseful. A delight to read. However, a lot of the themes and ideas in this book are just a recycle of those find in the Ripley novels... and this book pales in comparison with Ripley.
