Historia
Genghis Khan was born Temujin, the son of a khan, raised in a clan of hunters migrating across the rugged steppe. Shaped by abandonment and betrayal, Temujin endured, driven by a singular fury: to survive in the face of death, to kill before being killed, and to conquer enemies who could come without warning from beyond the horizon. Through a series of courageous raids, Temujin's legend grew until he was chasing a vision: to unite many tribes into one, to make the earth tremble under the hoofbeats of 1,000 warhorses, to subject all nations and empires to his will.

Excellent book and reader
Revisado: 01-05-25
I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Mr. Iggulden is an excellent writer. He brings Genghis, the Mongols, and their time vividly alive. The novel is both entertaining and enlightening. I'll definitely continue with the next in the series. Five stars, kudos, and appreciation to the author.

Historia
In The Normans, Lars Brownworth follows their story, from the first shock of a Viking raid on an Irish monastery to the exile of the last Norman Prince of Antioch. In the process, he brings to vivid life the Norman tapestry's rich cast of characters: figures like Rollo the Walker, William Iron-Arm, Tancred the Monkey King, and Robert Guiscard. The Normans presents a fascinating glimpse of a time when a group of restless adventurers had the world at their fingertips.

An excellent listen
Revisado: 07-23-24
I found "The Normans: From Raiders to Kings" an excellent book about an important people and time that is sadly ignored today. The story was vivid and fast-paced, and I learned a lot. The narration was also outstanding. A knowledge and understanding of European and world history is incomplete without the story of the Normans. Two thumbs up.

Historia
In June 2020, prominent business and political leaders gathered for the fiftieth annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, under the rubric of "The Great Reset." In the words of WEF founder Klaus Schwab, the Great Reset is a "unique window of opportunity" afforded by the worldwide COVID-19 panic to build "a new social contract" ushering in a utopian era of economic, social, and environmental justice. But beneath their lofty and inspiring words, what are their actual plans?

An excellent collection of essays
Revisado: 05-16-23
An excellent collection of essays about a very serious set of issues--perhaps the most important issues of our time. All the authors were eloquent and informative, and the book makes for a great place to start or continue one's research into globalism, the so-called great reset, build back better, and the rest of the very real agenda being hoisted upon a still-unsuspecting world. We've been warned.
None of the essays were abusive in tone, and each chapter utilizes words, writings, and pronouncements by the very people pushing the great reset agenda. All of the essays were highly informative and thought-provoking.
There are several good books about this subject, but of those I've read, I consider this collection of essays by an assortment of intelligent writers the broadest in scope and the most interesting.

The real deal
Revisado: 12-23-11
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend Dr. Sarno and his work to anyone who suffers chronic pain of any kind.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Healing Back Pain?
A number of the case examples strike to the core. His explanation of TMS, and how it works is very clear.
What about John E. Sarno???s performance did you like?
That it is Dr. Sarno himself who reads the book that really makes it good. He has a kind but authoritative voice, and his concern for his patients is obvious.
Any additional comments?
I suggest listening to the book in conjunction with reading his other book, 'The Mind-Body Prescription'. As soon as you accept the truth of what he is saying, you will be free of pain. It worked for me after 20 years and having tried everything else.
I understand why some reviewers are skeptical, but they don't seem to grasp the basic concept, that it is the KNOWLEDGE of TMS that breaks the pain chain. Once you 'get it' you are free.
I recommend you keep a journal and really drill down into all the things that cause you anger, resentment, stress, and anxiety. Do so while keeping in mind the personality traits that often lend themselves to TMS. You'll be surprised how much gunk bubbles up. As you do this while considering everything Dr. Sarno speaks about, at some point the nickel drops, and you're home free.

Historia
It's difficult today to imagine how America survived the Great Depression. Only through the stories of the common people who struggled during that era can we really understand how the nation endured. In The Forgotten Man, Amity Shlaes offers a striking reinterpretation of the Great Depression. Rejecting the old emphasis on the New Deal, she turns to the neglected and moving stories of individual Americans, and shows how they helped establish the steadfast character we developed as a nation.

Antidote for Our Collective Amnesia
Revisado: 03-28-10
Ms Shlaes' 'Forgotten Man' is as forgotten today as back then, and in greater numbers than ever. Regrettably, fewer and fewer people are alive today to recall the great depression for the rest of us, and so this book is the best antidote to our collective amnesia.
The Forgotten Man is exceedingly fair and balanced, and to my mind neither political party comes off well, well-intentioned though they may have been.
Don't let those who snubbingly call the book "revisionist' fool you. It is history, plain and simple, only history that most Americans alive today neither recall nor wish to recall. The intellectual elite of the past are the same as those we have experimenting on us today. Only, back then they didn't have a great depression to learn from, making inexcusable the actions of today's brain trusts.
The numerous biographical sketches bring the times alive and making the book a double winner, both an excellent collection of fascinating biography as well as history.
I found the book a very quick listen, and now every headline I read in the paper, every piece of legislation that is passed, and all the exact same rhetoric we hear our leaders exhort takes on a whole new meaning.
