Not a useful learning format. My 7 year old thought the song was catchy, but I don't think she learned anything from it, and per her words "that's it? That was boring."

It is the reason we can't stop obsessing about these creatures, in whom we see all too much of ourselves.

More gore than I can handle.

I love Hugh Howey and a good zombie novel, but for me this was too gory. A different kind of zombie novel, told by those trapped in the bodies of the dead. Much of the story was very repetitive- a lot of shuffling and moaning while thinking of the past. Story never really moved forward. Narration was good.

What did you love best about Furies of Calderon?
I loved the stories and all of the colorful characters. It had all of the elements of good fantasy- magic, peril, mild romance, and of course a happy ending.
Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Kate Reading does a great job, I love her accent and she does a fair job of doing different voices for the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

What three words best describe MacLeod Andrews’s performance?
I enjoyed this story, but it wasn't Sanderson at his most captivating. I thought MacLeod Andrews did a fair job with the narration but the tone used for the protagonist actually turned me off of the character because it made him sound kind of annoying and dorky. I've preferred Michael Kramer's readings for Sanderson much more.. Still, I did just buy book 2.

She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

What does Finty Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I loved the narration by Finty Williams, her prim accent provided the perfect tone to the novel, and added some depth. It helped you to remember that the book was being told from the perspective of a young girl, and provided contrast to all of the violence and gore surrounding her.
Any additional comments?
A great read and a wonderful twist on a post-apocalyptic story. Skip it if you don't love gore, but I thought the story played out wonderfully and the characters really came alive for me.
