I'm steadily working my way through this series, mostly because the narrator Tavia Gilbert is brilliant and it makes for a nice relaxing bed time listen. Three books in and I rather like that between each book time has elapsed, and Rachel's circumstances change. We aren't a constant fly on the wall for her, but rather a friend popping in every few months to check to see all is well. (Maybe, a poor choice of words as Rachel has the worst luck...). Broken Places wasn't a great 'whodunnit' - I'd worked out the twist almost the moment the second body was found. It was, however, enjoyable and has left me curious as to what happens next to Rachel and the people she interacts with. Worth a credit? Probably not so much, but it is worth buying the book to get the audio book at a reduced price imo.

I feel like I'm listening to a different book to those the other reviewers have listened to. I'm three quarters the way through and all I can think is this is some weird fanfiction offering with the main male character and films he starred in renamed so it can be published as a book. The female lead smells like a 'Marysue' being gorgeous (but with low self esteem), brilliant at photography, rich in her own right without even touching the trust fund set up in her name due to a disturbing trauma in her past. She is perfect, he falls instantly in love with her - I'm beginning to wonder if Kristen Proby is trawling fanfiction sites to kick start her muse.

The performance is fine, but the story is so silly it is distracting me to the point where I'm anticipating the next bit of ridiculousness. Looking the reviews again, it seems that I'm in the minority so far as my opinion goes! Purchased on sale, so I'm not gutted about the amount I spent on this, but I'll certainly be more careful about Kristen Proby's offerings in future!

Second Book Better Than First!

I've been looking forward to this book for months, ever since first discovering Forged by Fire. The publishing date was delayed several times, but finally we get to enjoy more Navy Seal action. And action, there certainly is!

This book follows "Cosky" and Kait, but we also get some glimpses at Beth and Zane's relationship (from book one), as well as other secondary couples together with a hint of the relationship that could be in book three. The romance is secondary to the plot, however, and I was happy for it. Ms McCallan writes wonderful action scenes which kept me on the edge of my seat.

Luke Daniels is a brilliant narrator for this. As much as I enjoyed Angela Dawe's reading of the first book, Luke Daniel is even better. Worth a credit? A big 'yes, indeedy!' from me. Don't dither! Go, buy now!

While I had read other reviews advising of a cliffhanger ending, I hadn't realized just how much of a cliffhanger it was. There is no resolution to this story, and having looked at reviews of the second book in this series it seems that the second book ends just as abruptly. To be honest, I just don't care enough about any of the characters in this book to worry about what happens next so I won't be bothering to read anymore. I did, however, enjoy Saskia Maarleveld's narration!

When I purchased this, I was expecting a straight forward suspense romance. I was surprised when I found that the Omega Force team Kell belongs to had some 'shifter' members. I suppose given Susannah Sandlin's other wonderful books I should have expected this, but the summary gave no indication so I did have a 'what the heck?' moment before I got sucked in to the excellent story. Alexander Cendese has a wonderfully deep reading voice. His female voices were a little jarring at the beginning, but by the end of the story they felt perfectly smooth. Thoroughly recommended!

Best of the three 'Midnights'

Midnight Angel is the third in the 'Midnight' Trilogy, (Midnight Man, Midnight Run, Midnight Angel). This was my favourite of the three and follows Allegra Ennis and Douglas Kowalski who are both introduced in Midnight Run. Events during all three books overlap and while reading all three in order will give you a better feel for the story overall, it isn't strictly necessary. I adore the way Lisa Marie Rice writes her male leads as super tough alpha males. However, beware! It is possible to overdose on her books to the point where the plots basically are the same (tough Alpha male meets tiny beautiful female who is in some sort of dangerous situation which he then solves using his vast experience from his previous military career). They are, however, books I'm happy to read/listen to more than once provided I allow a decent gap between repeats! Alexandra R Josephs is a brilliant narrator. Her husky male voice is perfect for the male leads in this series and I'd happily listen to her again. Thoroughly recommended!

As a huge fan of Lisa Marie Rice, I was delighted to see more of her work come to Audible. Port of Paradise is a little bit different to that of Ms Rice's usual trilogy offerings but is still crammed full of romance, suspense, and hot steamy sex. Add to that a little bit of angst, and the result in an excellent listen. Hope has a history that makes her hate cops, but Capitano Franco Rivers is determined that she will be his (and seriously, who wouldn't want to be his!!). Jorjeana Marie is an excellent narrator that I'd not encountered before, but who I'd happily listen to again. Thoroughly recommended.

I've spent the entire weekend listening to the two available Ghost Ops books, and I'm almost bouncing up and down in eagerness for the next instalment. Book 2 is about Nick and Elle, who knew each other as children. Miscommunication has resulted in their separation for ten years, but when Nick discovers Elle is in trouble he instantly wants to rescue her. Ms Rice has done some mighty fine writing with this book allowing me to live all the angst and anxiety the two main protagonists experience in the first half of the book. The second half is action filled and paves the way to the next instalment that I'll be getting just as soon as it is available!

It wasn't absolutely necessary to read the first book in this series to understand what was going on in this one, but I would fully recommend them being read in sequence. Secondary characters in Haven also get some story time which was a nice inclusion. Seraphine Valentine continues to narrate brilliantly. All in all, 5 out of 5! (Please do bring us more of Ms Rice's offerings - I have them all on my Kindle already, but I'd love to listen to them too!)

Another winner from Lisa Marie Rice!

Lisa Marie Rice was one of the first authors I ever paid for when I got my first Kindle and I've never been disappointed with any of her offerings. While her writing is fairly formulaic (strong alpha male, often in a team of three with one being scared in some fashion, meeting up with a seemingly fragile but strong willed woman), her books are always enjoyable. This story follows that premise and is set in a future world in which drugs that can wipe a persons memories back a few days are available, and the cure for cancer has been found but hidden away by an unethical 'baddie'. Enter Catherine, a brilliant doctor, who is compelled by her gift to seek out 'Mac', a disgraced soldier in hiding, and share a message with him warning of impending danger.

As I mentioned, I'm a little biased when it comes to Ms Rice (I think her writing is wonderful and her biography at Amazon makes me giggle every time I read it), but I'm very happy to have spent a credit on this story. I hadn't heard Seraphine Valentine's narration before, but enjoyed it (despite sometimes cringing at her 'surfer dude' voice). There is another Ghost Ops Novel available, which I'll be listening to next and I can only hope that Audible will soon release other books written by Lisa Marie Rice.

I've long been a fan of Lexi Blake and Shayla Black, so I was delighted to see Their Virgin Captive come to Audible. Their Virgin Captive follows the relationship between Hannah and her three bosses Gavin, Slade and Dex who are brothers. The story is very unrealistic - all three brothers have wanted Hannah since the moment they set eyes on her and abduct her in order to protect her when she is pursued by a stalker (who is fairly easy to identify early on in the book). Having said that, it is enjoyable romance mixed with a healthy dose of angst and also contains a lot of explicit (and steamy) sexual encounters between Hannah and the brothers (both individually and together).

Serena Daniels handled the narration well, and I'd be happy to listen to her narrate the other books in this series. I'd have been happy to spend a credit on this, but as I already had the Kindle edition, I snapped it up at a reduced cost and saved the credit. Please bring us more Blake/Black books, Audible!
