Historia
When store manager Big Will announces he is leaving, the members of Movement spot an opportunity. If they play their cards right, one of them just might land a management job, with all the stability and possibility for advancement that that implies. The members of Team Movement―including a comedy-obsessed oddball who acts half his age, a young woman clinging on to her “cool kid” status from high school, and a college football hopeful trying to find a new path―band together to set a just-so-crazy-it-might-work plot in motion.

Fabulous, very real look at the retail sector and its workers
Revisado: 09-21-24
I loved how the author delved into each of the characters, so it seemed that they had their own unique personality. The story conveys the pathos of a town left behind, and set adrift by the corporate culture of America. It shows, dramatically I feel, how those still living there are trapped by poverty; the lacks and wants as ropes and cages. Without a private vehicle, flexible access to, or license to drive one in the increasingly car dependent landscapes of America is its own barrier. . “Help Wanted”also shows the living conditions in which the workers live - with only upper management fortunate enough to be able to afford houses, while the rank and file workers are left needing to rent a place to live and sleep. This entails the ability to pay upfront what the landlord asks; usually 3 months rent (first, and last month, plus a security deposit which usually is about a month’s rent as well). THEN there are the references needed … it’s a wonder how anyone gets anywhere without SOME kind of help. The book demonstrates how varied the help required is; from the first time worker to ex con.
The detail of one of the former managers seen applying for a job in a nearby chain store shows the barrenness of the retail environment in the town.
This was eye opening for a person who has worked in the food service and childcare sectors most of their life.

Historia
Audie Award, Humor, 2016. In Furiously Happy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

I LOVE Jenny Lawson
Revisado: 06-05-24
I loved the book, because I love Jenny Lawson and her courageous tales about her life and its many ups and downs, and telling them all with characteristic hilarity.
[I had written a lengthier review, which took entirely too long (over an hour) to post before the entire review disappeared 😖😖😡😖😡😖😡]

Historia
In the summer of 1966, Christina Hardcastle - “Tiny” to her illustrious family - stands on the brink of a breathtaking future. Of the three Schuyler sisters, she’s the one raised to marry a man destined for leadership, and with her elegance and impeccable style, she presents a perfect camera-ready image in the dawning age of television politics. Together she and her husband, Frank, make the ultimate power couple: Intelligent, rich, and impossibly attractive. It seems nothing can stop Frank from rising to national office, and he’s got his sights set on a senate seat in November.

An eerie resemblance to real-life figures
Revisado: 12-03-22
The overall premise and a broad outline of the plot brought to my mind references to real events and figures/characters in American history. Yet, whenever I tried to force either onto this book, the storyline wriggled away, escaping the confines of the real people and real events into which I attempted to put them. This tale is as well written and told as the other books by Ms. Williams that I have thus far read.
Ms. McInerny’s narration is superb.

Engrossing story
Revisado: 02-15-22
I listen to the sample before buying an audiobook, as the quality of the narrator can make or break the story. Mr. York has embodied the tales of John Hawkwood for me and I look for his narration on all of said stories.
