Perfect. Not aliterary masterpiece, but just so good! I’m sure I’ll be trying to convince everyone I know to read it for the next few months.

Historia
When the writer Donovan Hohn heard of the mysterious loss of thousands of bath toys at sea, he figured he would interview a few oceanographers, talk to a few beachcombers, and read up on Arctic science and geography. But questions can be like ocean currents: wade in too far, and they carry you away. Hohn's accidental odyssey pulls him into the secretive world of shipping conglomerates, the daring work of Arctic researchers, the lunatic risks of maverick sailors, and the shadowy world of Chinese toy factories.

Rambling and repetitive
Revisado: 01-27-23
I laughed aloud so many times in the first few pages, but his style got old by halfway through the book. The story was too wandering for me. I appreciated the fascinating facts, but I think I’d have preferred reading a handful of articles instead of an entire book with dubious plot. Still, the writing was fun and often clever. I don’t regret the read, but probably won’t waste any recommendations on it.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Perfect

I read this as a teenager and, having already scene the BBC mini series, enjoyed it then. But it was far better this time than I remembered! The characters are so believable as to be familiar. The story is roundly satisfying. And the themes, of course, are timeless. There is far more pride and prejudice than just what the main characters display. It left me feeling delighted and somewhat introspective.

Outstanding Narrator
Revisado: 10-14-20
First, I applaud Mr. Branagh. The more characters were introduced, the more in awe I became of his mastery. He has a remarkable ability for switching smoothly between voices, characters, accents, even languages. His performance alone was probably half my enjoyment.
Of course the story was very enjoyable itself. Agatha C. is classic, of course, and this mystery kept me guessing and interested. I finished the listen in two days. Although I had guessed (or perhaps remembered from previous exposure) “whodunnit” by the end, I had not figured out exactly how, and the Holmesian reveal at the end was full of surprises.
While very satisfying, this is not a particularly deep book thematically. Rather it is a short read/listen with plenty to interest while feeling comfortably familiar.

Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Left me with an incredible new outlook on cleaning
Revisado: 04-26-17
I loved this book! And the reader was absolutely perfect. (I can't imagine a better reader.) The messages are simple and well-repeated, but only enough to reinforce— not to bore. The examples from Marie's clients are spot on. I kept thinking, "That sounds like me!" I'm not a messy person, but this book gave me an invigorating new perspective on decluttering and organizing. I had specific items and ideas from my own room occur to me as she spoke of others'. It was nearly impossible to keep from cleaning whenever I was listening. Thank you, Marie! I've already taken my first huge load to the thrift store and filled the recycling bin many times over. But, ironically, I've never loved my belongings (what I've decided to keep) more.
