Historia
A violent storm washes a mysterious house onto a rural Pacific Northwest beach, stopping the heart of the only woman who knows what it means. Her grandson, Simon Culpepper, vanishes in the aftermath, leaving two of his childhood friends to comb the small, isolated island for answers—but decades have passed since Melissa and Leo were close if they were ever close at all. Now they'll have to put aside old rivalries and grudges if they want to find or save the man who brought them together in the first place—and on the way they'll learn a great deal about the sinister house on the beach.

Unique concept, standard execution - but in a good way
Revisado: 10-09-24
Very cool high concept about a haunted house, and the characters were well designed and complex enough. However, the actual villain was kinda missing. Don’t get me wrong, this is worth listening to, I just wish there was more depth about the villain and their motivations.

Historia
Having escaped an unhappy marriage, Morgan finds herself in Camelot–the city of dreams and peace. Her brother, King Arthur, treats her as a valued advisor and Morgan finally has recognition befitting her intelligence within Arthur’s trusted circle, despite a longstanding conflict with Queen Guinevere. But Morgan’s life is not without complications. Between a vengeful husband determined to snatch their son away, the strict ideals of court life, and a jealous rival for Arthur’s attentions in the sorcerer Merlin, gaining true recognition and freedom is a greater challenge than Morgan envisioned.

Morgan Le Fay comes alive
Revisado: 09-05-24
Amazing blend of the King Arthur narrative along with a compelling motivation of the iconic force known as Morgan Le Fay. This follow up is solid and I listened to it in record time. It had been a couple of years since the first installment but it swept up all the storylines with ease. Recommended to those looking for a bit of good fantasy mixed with a heaping dash of womanly righteousness.

Historia
Even as a girl Morgan has always been wild, like the seas which batter the cliffs beneath her home, Tintagel Castle. But she has always been safe, too. Then one day her father is called away to a war from which he does not return. In his place comes the High King, Uther Pendragon, with the sorcerer Merlin lurking in his wake. Uther claims Morgan’s mother, the Lady Igraine as his queen.

Excellent character building
Revisado: 03-01-23
No spoilers
Some say this is slow, perhaps they are looking for a pulse-pounding Harry Potter ride. Skip that, this has the true gravitas of true character building with a solid focus on what matters…. the nuanced creation of King Arthur and Merlin’s nemesis. We discover Morgan from childhood and teen years, through adulthood. This is a bold take on the legend, giving a far more human spin on par with what WICKED did for the Oz legend, or what the MALEFICENT films wanted to do with the Sleeping Beauty legend. If you are down for that, then listen to this. If you’re into political intrigue, forbidden love, familial obligation with a side dish of history then this is worth your time.
Also, keep note… this delves into a bit of the female empowerment trope, which is easy to do in a world when women were treated as second-class people - even as queens. The rise of Morgan can come no way but through that sense of empowerment, I for one welcomed it.
The narrator was very measured, so if you’re expecting swift and agitated voice work you might not care much. I liked it because this is all ground work of the character. However, I do wonder how future books will feel when (or if) actual battles are waged. In this first installment battle action and the wars of knights are mentioned of in the background, like footnotes. I appreciated that because those fights did not include Morgan herself. In future books I hope Morgan herself will fight .

Evil Dead meets Jurassic Park
Revisado: 01-29-23
The reader was a bit flat, but that’s okay because he was hired to delivery the deadpan jokes. Humor is part of this package and reading this with a straight face was actually a good idea.
A lot of bodies, blood, gore and dark humor. Moves fast, too. I liked it a lot. My kinda high-concept book.

Historia
In AD 1119, a group of nine crusaders became known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon - a militant monastic order charged with protecting pilgrims and caravans traveling on the roads to and from the Holy Land. In time, the Knights Templar would grow in power and, ultimately, be laid low. But a small offshoot of the Templars endure and have returned to the order's original mission: to defend the roads of the world and guard those who travel on them.

Not bad for some escapist fun
Revisado: 12-31-22
No spoilers:
Always nice to read horror/adventure with a new hook. Brotherhood of the Wheel takes some of the ordinary mundane rules of the road that we all know and gives it a supernatural spin. A bit over-the-top at the end, but it comes together in fun way. Read this for the fun, leave the logic loopholes on the kitchen counter.
