Historia
After decades of poising on the brink, the United States and China finally go to war when China invades the island of Taiwan. Deploying their most futuristic technologies in this grand strategic competition of the twenty-first century, the stakes could not be higher. Not only the future of the Taiwanese people but the fate of the world lies in the balance. In an era when humans no longer just use machines, but partner with them in all aspects of military operations, this fictional account views this future war through the eyes of the American, Chinese, and Taiwanese caught up in the maelstrom.

Fascinating Potential Poorly Executed
Revisado: 12-21-23
This book was recommended as part of a senior military officer's leadership development program and I am now concerned with their reading level. As other reviewers have stated, this reads as fanfiction, like PowerPoint slides of military action that looks good in a commercial. There is little depth and reality to the characters in the story and most are just marysue military caricatures.
The author relies far too much on technobabel that stands out as crutch for storytelling. If I ever hear "bespoke algorithm" again I will groan and remember how overused it was in this book.
The narrator mispronounced littoral so often I cringed each time I heard it. Research was obviously lacking.
The background and potential in this story could have led to an amazing book, unfortunately it falls flat in every area.

Historia
The writer and broadcaster Paul Heiney set sail from the east coast of England bound for Iceland, propelled by a desire to breathe the cool, clear air of the high latitudes, and to follow in the wake of generations of sailors who have made this often treacherous journey since the 13th century. In almost every harbour he tripped over maritime history and anecdote, and came face to face with his own past as he sailed north along his childhood coastline of east Yorkshire towards the Arctic Circle. But there was one major thing missing from this voyage - the sight of puffins.

less a story about puffins than an old man's sailing trip with very subjective and sometimes biased perceptions on Iceland and the environment.

Historia
From two former military officers and award-winning authors comes a chillingly authentic geopolitical thriller that imagines a naval clash between the US and China in the South China Sea in 2034 - and the path from there to a nightmarish global conflagration.

Great concept, not so great writing. I loved the strategic look ahead at what may come and how power projection and geopolitics will affect future warfare, but the writing felt amateur and overly dramatic. The U.S. military characters felt like caricatures instead of real people, and i have served twenty years myself. It will make an amazing movie, but it was a disappointing read.
