I approached this book with trepidation. I loved “Never Gonna Give You Up” the very first time I heard/saw the video on tv. I had to buy the cassette the next day and after a week my six year old said “Mommy do we have to listen to this AGAIN?!” I am so, so glad I bought this audiobook. I like Rick as a person and as a performer.

Another Home Run!

King has done it again, another great book. He sucks me right in and the events in the book could be real. I feel guilty passing by someone who needs help on the side of the road, after reading this book I will not think twice.

Hang In There

The first few chapters I was struggling to get through because the characters were not very likable. I am so glad I did continue to listen. It is a good reminder to be kind to others. We have no idea what burdens they are carrying.

Free and not worth the price

I like science fiction. When I saw the free offer I was happy to try a new (to me) author. I am very happy I didn't not lose any money on this audiobook. The story line was interesting. The continuous use of foul language added nothing to the plot and was distracting. Same can be said for the gratuitous sex scenes. Wil Wheaton's performance was okay. I will not be purchasing a Scalzi book in any form.

Aliens among us?

The writing was okay, not great. Parts of the plot were a little far fetched (excluding the aliens of course). The author was sure to include his political slant to elements of the story. There was a very nice plot twist that I didn't see coming.

The narration by Cronin was good. I would listen to him again.

Inspiring

I have been a fan of "Fixer Upper" since it began. I think the decorating is nice (not exactly my style), but what drew me in was the personalities and the obvious love and respect between Joanna and Chip. They are people I would love to call my friend. I really wish there had been a show like this when I was growing up. I watched The Donna Reed Show or Dick Van Dyke and my family was nothing like that. Chip and Jo are not perfect, but they put their faith in God first, family second, and then their work. They are a role model that I would have liked to have know about 40 years ago.

Listening to this autobiography was a true pleasure. It is inspiring to hear how the challenges they faced drew them closer to each other and to their faith. It was wonderful to hear how they allowed God to move them and to support them as they stepped out in faith through the years.

This is not a how-to book on making money flipping houses. This is a book with a lot of common sense, laughter, love, and human failings.

I will enjoy watching the show even more now that I know Chip and Joanna's backgrounds.
