It is 1976 and Andy Catlett, farmer and agricultural journalist, is walking the streets of San Francisco at dawn. In the eight months since losing his right hand to a corn-picking machine, he has also lost himself. Two thousand miles from his home in Kentucky, he begins to remember people, the land, and the comfort of knowing his place intimately. Andy's reveries evoke a membership governed by the principles of humanity and love.

Incredible
Revisado: 12-23-23
Brilliant use of changing between the seasons and shifting of a character’s life to weave a whole story. Filled with hurt that gives way to healing through the grace of remembering. Well done.

Good Book, but...
Revisado: 09-13-19
I am new to the series, having never watched Lonesome Dove the movie or television series. It continues to tell the stories of Carl and Gus, however it jumps large sections of time. This is not a terrible blow to the listener, but does make one wonder if McMurtry were stretching to get the characters to the more appealing season of life to come in Lonesome Dove. I will keep listening, but this does not make my list of best books ever.

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

So very good
Revisado: 07-09-19
Tells a really challenging story, mostly unknown to the average citizen, about the courage of character behind the scenes in the years leading up to one of the momentous successes in human history. Very well done.

Historia
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

Historia
Power is changing. Private corner offices and management by decree are out, as is unquestioned trust in the government and media. These former pillars of traditional power have been replaced by networks of informed citizens who collectively wield more power over their personal lives, employers, and worlds than ever before. So how do you navigate this new landscape and come out on top? Adam Grant, Wharton organizational psychologist, went to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the epicenter of power, and sat down with thought leaders from around the world, to find out.

One of the best, all time
Revisado: 09-10-18
Brilliant. Literature at its best. Hemingway develops characters with a rare understanding of humanity and a wisdom of the world. His love of Spain and his knowledge of the European wars of the early 20th century are only surpassed by the excellence of his storytelling. Simple. Classic.

Historia
Few subjects are as compelling-or as endlessly variable-as love and marriage. The Bible is filled with references to husbands and wives, from the story of Adam and Eve to advice in the New Testament, each open to interpretation. In The Meaning of Marriage, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and bestselling author of The Reason for God, uses the scriptures as his guide to show readers what God's call to marriage is, and why this is such a powerful call.

A great book for me and surely for you
Revisado: 02-27-18
The Kellers offer a wonderful combination of interpreting the Scriptures with a humble and sometimes funny sharing of their own story of marriage. I couldn’t stop listening at one point, leaning in for the wisdom in every chapter. I bought 3 copies of the paperback the day after I finished listening to it to share with friends.
